CS Recon Scout/Trail Master in 3V Quality Control

Hey all, just got my CS Recon Scout in 3V and was immediately disappointed. It came with uneven grinds at the base of the spine, near the ricasso area. This is NOT ok at this price point. I'd post a picture, but I'm not sure how to unfortunately.

I have a Trail Master in O1 steel and the grind was flawless with full spine thickness. I also ordered a new Recon Scout in 52100 and it just arrived today. I inspected it and the grind on the spine appears to be perfect. Did anyone get a 3V Recon Scout or Trail Master with a good spine grind and full spine thickness, or are all of them like this?

Sorry to hear that. I don’t trust anything GSM does with Cold Steel. I’ll only buy old cold steel knives.

Also, you can select the “Attach files” button and then select photos from your photo library. Then select “insert” and select “full image” IMG_8903.jpegwhen prompted at the next step.

Agreed friend and thanks for the info on how to post pics. I guess I'll be looking for old stock Cold Steel on eBay until they get their quality control under control lol. But I can confirm the 52100 version of the CS Recon Scout has decent grinds. Maybe I got lucky, I don't know, but its like the 52100 and the 3V versions of the Recon Scout and Trail Master were made in separate factories.

What I do like is the steel though. And I also like how much easier it is to sharpen with the secondary grind on the edge.
Agreed on that. I do love 3V steel and V edges over convex grinds for ease of sharpening in the field. But man am I disappointed in GSM right now. Oh well, maybe it will get fixed one day.

Unfortunately I’ve seen this movie before, quality will continue to be sacrificed for quarterly earnings so executives can make their quarterly bonuses and then they’ll leave after 2 years when they can’t blame anyone else for the lack of sales after creating the lack of demand by sacrificing quality through their own actions. I don’t mind anyone making a profit, I’m just not a fan of sacrificing quality or customer service to make it.

My 3V Trainmaster's grinds are OK, but I also waited until I started reading reports of Trailmasters with good grinds as opposed to every report I've seen complaining about the grinds.

A knife in the $200.00+ range should not have grinds as bad as in some of the pictures I've seen. Sure, it will chop just as well but at least do some quality control.

The old Cold Steel put knives into the "factory seconds" category and sold them at a discount for less obvious errors.

Hopefully the new cheaper ones will have better grinds.
