Hello.
I recieved my factory second Cold Steel Recon Tanto today and I am quite pleased. Including shipping, it ran me $57 which I think is a fair deal. The only blemish I can see is where the "COLD STEEL" logo is printed, it isn't impressed deeply into the steel. Obviously, this is no big deal. The knife itself is beautiful, the grind and the finish are even and incredibly smooth. It's sharp as hell out of the box. For me, the grip is really comfortable...it isn't ever going to slip out of my bony hand. In addition, it is weighted quite nicely...hefty enough to feel substantial when it is swung or thrust, but not at all heavy or burdensome.
The only problem I have is a quite evident one, the sheath. I really think we should begin to petition CS about their sheaths. I've heard consistent complaints on the forums here that they're all but useless. This one is some kind of Cordura/cardboard system that doesn't seem like it cost more than 80 cents to design and manufacture.
I am considering buying one of Normark's sheaths, but I don't think I can justify spending $33.00 to hold my $50 knife. Any other recommendations? I have no doubts about the quality of Eric's work, I just don't think I can deal with the price right now. Thanks.
