Hello

Has anyone had any experience with the CS Rifleman's Hawk (or others from the series)?

It seems to be a great piece of gear, when you can keep it's head in place. There does not appear to be anything to keep the head from comming loose and sliding in towards your hand. The design of the handle appears to be "backwards" from the design typically used for axes, hatchets and hammers. I was going to try to make up some metal or wood wedges to try to keep it together.

Thanks in advance.

As suggested over in the cold steel forum before it closed, soak the handle in oil for a while (i think it was done for a week). This makes the handle swell, and presto - no more moving head.

The biggest problem I have encountered is that the handle is not real strong. Get several extras if you plan on using it. The shape of the handle is more like a pick handle, which means that the head can not fly off the end. Once you have used it a little it will seat itself well, and will not drop off the bottom. You will still be able to remove it easily to replace the handle when necessary.
