I live in an area w/ a 4" carry limit - this blade is described as being 3 3/4" long, but there is a bit over an extra inch of shaft between the blade and the handle. Sooooo: is this taken into account when measureing the blade legnth? Would rather not learn the answer the hard way! Thanks!

You could argue the length but it really depends on the officer. If he wants to be a jerk he can measure it all the way to the bolt/hinge screw. If not just the edged part of the blade.

The question of how blade length is measured can be really complicated. If "blade length" isn't defined in any statutes, then you have to research court cases to get at least some idea of how it might be measured in a court of law. Writing to a District Attorney or Attorney General in your state might provide some information. Also, you could ask individual police officers in your area, but you'll probably get a different answer from each cop you talk to.
