CS Spartan Problem

Howdy,

Just got me a new Cold Steel Spartan and it is a awesome knife. Unfortunately, it is very difficult to engage the lever lock (it is very stiff and takes a lot of pressure) in order to close the blade.

I tried repeatedly opening and closing it to break it in and it is still difficult.

My question is, would this knife be easy to disassemble in order to polish up the contact points, then reassemble?

Any suggestions? Thanks

I have had many lockbacks from varied makers over the years and sometimes the lock is very stiff. I have found that a little bit of lubrication and a few weeks of use will loosen them up nicely but still maintain a good tight lockup. If it remains very tight contact CS as their customer service has a pretty good reputation.

That Tri-ad lock takes a lot of pushing to disengage. It's just the way it's made.
I've read after opening and closing it numerous times it tends to ease up. But, it still has to be depressed a lot further than other lock-backs just because of the way it's made.

I wonder if polishing any surfaces would be of much help.

I suspect is is the spring stiffness versus the affective length of the operating lever arm that makes it a bit more difficulat to operate.

I must say it is easier to disengage the lock on my Spartan (and Rajah II) than my rebladed Buck 560. That Buck is the "king" of my difficult to unlock knives.

My Rajah II took two hands to close when I first got it, but playing with it loosened it up. It's still tight but not a problem now.

Jill, I think you are right, just the nature of that lock. It has been loosening up some, so I am not as concerned. Still, I don't think I have ever seen such a substantial lock.
