does anyone have both the spartan and the rajah 2 that could compare
briefly how they carry. is one more comfortable than the other to sport
around for short periods of time. thanks.

I once owned a Rajah 2 and I held a Spartan at a local Army/Navy store. Both knives are huge and very sturdy. The Rajah is outrageous and the better knife of 2 IMHO. The pinky choil is an awesome feature. It extends your reach and make the rajah the best chopping folder on the market.

I only left the house with Rajah in my pocket once, It is way too big for EDC, you can hardly bend at the hip with that thing in your pocket. With that being said, I don't regret buying it, because it is an awesome knife, and It's not so bad that I can't toss it in my pocket when I go out to the yard to hack some stuff.

I don't know if this help you but Boker has new knife similar to Rajah/Spartan that is super cheap.

I dont own the spartan but I do own a rajah 1 and 2. I love them and carry the rajah 2 with me nearly everyday. I can feel the weight when I am standing up but it doesnt annoy me or anything. I dont notice it at all when I am sitting.

I have the rajah II, its great, super heavy duty, you really get your moneys worth.

I had no trouble EDCing my Rajah II. My pants are a little on the baggy side though. Still barely noticeable.

I have both and use both, extensively...the Rajah 1 is the superior edc in all ways to both, a little thinner, feels lighter than the 2 with that in mind the Rajah 2 is the one I carry to beat up on hikes (Rajah 1 being disco'd BLOWS!) and outdoors while the Spartan stays in the BOB.

I love the way the Spartan feels in hand, I think the placement of the clip or maybe it's the clip itself leaves alot to be desired in the pocket.

Chef, thanks for the comparisons. I mainly am wondering if you can actually notice the
weight difference and feel of the Rajah 2 from the Spartan?

The Spartan carries pretty comfortably IWB. It's a big knife obviously but it works.

i own both, they are great knives, i edc the spartan more than the rajah just because it is a more manageable size.

my only qualm with the knives is the finish on the blades.
for some reason, cold steel's beadbalst finishes are just rust magnets.
i have to take care of rust on the blade after each day of edc.
i plan on refinishing the blades once i get the supplies

Make no mistake, Seanski - the Rajah II is huge. It'll take some getting used to before you can carry it without discomfort. I've found that, because of its size, I've had to come up with a different carry configuration for each pair of pants I own (not all pockets are identical in depth or breadth).

That being said, the Rajah II is an excellent EDC if you can manage it physically (not to mention legally - it is a fearsome knife and some jurisdictions may frown upon it).

I held a Spartan once at the Cold Steel parking lot sale. It is much lighter than the Rajah II and offers a similar recurve blade shape. The handle on the Spartan is probably its biggest feature. If you've got just the right hand size, you'll feel like the knife was welded to your fist - it's SOLID.

It all comes down to what you want to do with the knife. If you're looking for a light EDC knife with good cutting power and a solid grip, go with the Spartan. If you're looking for a heavy duty chopper that you can fold up and pull out of your pocket to scare your friends and relatives, the Rajah II is a good purchase. If you're looking for a heavy duty chopper and don't really care about shocking or impressing people, then just grab a Cold Steel Trail Hawk instead. Those things are cheap and they'll survive the apocalypse.

I own and EDC a Spartan modded to a tanto. For a knife in the $60 range, it can't be beat. It looks up tighter than some knives costing 10X as much. Never owned a Rajah but I played with one. I believe it is just as capable. It is all a matter of preference. I'm not into kuhkris or drastic recurves.

Thank you all for your thoughts and experiences with these two fine knives.

One final question, I just might go out and grab a Spartan tommorow and having handled
one the other day briefly the one thing that stuck out was the amount of pressure
required to release the triad lock on this one? I was surprised at how difficult it was to
disengage and Jay from W&W showed me how he does it and flips it over and uses the
middle finger which is easier but I was very surprised. How do you guys find the release on the Spartan? Did I just grab a one off? Thanks.

To disengage the lock on the Spartan takes a lot of pressure. I don't know about the Rajah. The Spartan takes much more pressure than the American Lawman, for instance.
I use my thumb to disengage the lock and it's not especially difficult for me. If I lock and unlock it several times in a row it becomes difficult for me.
I've shown my Spartan to friends and they often have some trouble disengaging the lock. The spring is strong and the button has to be pressed in almost all the way unlike your typical lockback.
