CS SRK: keep & modify or sell?

I had bought a CS SRK years ago and lost it while relocating. Well, I found it a few months ago, still in new condition, and I'm wondering what to do. I like the overall feel of the knife and the handle is very comfortable to me. I like the Carbon V blade but now feel it's a little thick. I'd be using it for camping and general around-the-yard duties. I'm considering sending it off to Tom Krein to flat grind it. Only problem is that means losing its blade coating. I'd have to blue it or some other treatment so the Carbon V won't rust. I've been thinking about this ever since I found it and can't decide. Should I sell it, just use it as-is, or Krein it? So help a brother out here and tell me what you'd do.

Keep it and use it, doesn't make any sense to put money into a 60.00 knife, its a good knife just like it is. But that is just my opinion.

I would love to see the SRK after a date with Tom.
my vote goes to the krein FFG. how much would that cost?

I look at it just the opposite. It is a good knife, but with potential for improvement, and considering how little it cost, you can afford to spend the few bucks to see how good it can get.

You could sell it and get the Bark River Smoke Jumper. Essentially the same knife but better. Already has the correct edge "from the factory".

I have had a few SRK's so I know of the issues you speak.

You could get a Fallkniven S-1. I think that's almost the same knife with a convex edge. :)

Why?

Lots of makers produce carbon steel knifes without coatings. Sure, it will rust if neglected but with only a little care it will remain as rust free as any coated knife.

Send it to Siguy on the WSS sub-forum for re-profiling/convexing. Great service and prices and you're helping a good kid.--Just my .02$--KV

I agree

If you really want something different. Sell it on Ebay; anything Carbon V seems to be bringing good money, especially it hasn't been used. I'd then put it towards something else. That Bark River blade looks interesting.

But, as for me, I'd just use it as it is :).
