Title says it all. Which knife is better in the following areas:

Sharpness
Edge Holding
Strength
Steel Type
Blade type
etc.

Im looking to get either one of the knives but I cant decide. I like the Ka-Bar but the SRK has proved to be very strong. I need to know the facts so I can make a good choice. Also what is the difference between Carbon V and AUS 8A?

Thanks for the help guys... also if you have any of these knives you would be interested in just let me know.

Both are fine knives. You might want to do searches here in the forum on both of them to gain your own knowledge base regarding these models.

Just love it when they says " title says it all "....

Welcome to Bladeforums!
Can't help too much between the two knives. Can with the steel.

Carbon V is a carbon steel that was used in knives sold by Cold Steel. The company that made those knives for Cold Steel went belly-up. With them went their proprietary steel. Cold steel switched to stainless for a lot of their knives.

AUS8 is a Japanese stainless steel that Cold steel uses in place of Carbon V in some of their blades.

The Carbon V should be tougher, easier to sharpen and probably hold an edge somewhat better. It is not stainless.

The AUS8 is a pretty fair stainless steel. Sharpens pretty easy for a stainless. Takes a good edge. Holds it pretty fair. And it is stainless.

Hope that helps.

Hey thanks guys. I did do a search before nut i got pretty mixed answers. Thanks for the help again.

I would think that you would get a good knife either way. If I was doing a lot of slicing I would get the K-Bar and if it was going to be used for prying or beating on it to split some wood I would get the SRK.

Anyone have a new or slightly used SRK they are willing to sell. Or does anyone know where to get one cheap? Tight budget for this Flyboy....
