Well I have that and I'm kind of going to gloat a bit. :D

I went to a gunshow today and picked up an old practically new (factory edge) no box Cold Steel Outdoorsman, and I just really didn't know what kind of steel they were running with them. It's before the whole San Mai 3 stuff as far as I can tell because if it was it would of been printed on the blade somehow.

I'm just all happy that I got it for 50 bucks still :p

The outdoorsman is not a bushman, its a nicer knife than that. If you got one for $50, you're doing pretty well.

It's the outdoorsman definatly. I had a bushman when they came out, and I'm kicking myself for getting rid of it.

The only difference is that there is no bone breaker edge on the top and it just has thumbgrooves on the top. Some guy tried buying it off of me right after I got it and there was no way I was going to get rid of it anytime soon.

Go for another bushman man, you can absolutely beat the crap out of it and they are as cheap as anything. If you ruin it, which would be quite a task, they are REALLY easy to replace.

50 bucks was a good price. I too picked up a Bush Ranger for just $40 at one of the gunshows a few years ago. Your Outdoorsman is probrably AUS8a. I've never known one to be made from anything else in the past.

The one you have was re-introduced in 1994 after the first run of Outdoorsmans sold out in the mid to late-1980's. I would also consider it to be somewhat rare. There is no bone breaker on the spine and the blade has a nice flowing up sweep to it. Blade is made of 400 series stainless and the guard and pommel are 300 stainless. This was a limited run Outdoorsman, brought back for those who didn't get in on the first run in the 80's. Later they were again re-introduced as seen in the current figuration. If you have the original sheath it would also have a brush proof retaining strap. Retail price was $180.00 but could be had by CS Special Projects for $120.00. Nice catch and find. wish I still had mine!

Best Regards,
Matador

That's exactly what I got. I just wish that I had the box though. I really like it without the bone breaker on the spine anyways.
