On another post someone mentioned Cold Steel was offering swords now. Could someone post a link?

Robert, there was some discussion of them on NetSword as well as on SwordForum, I think. Nobody had seen or held one, but there was some comment on the weight of the Katana at 2 lbs, 8 ozs.

Rick Barrett clarified this a little...

They are made by Fred Chen's business (not Hanwei, which is Paul Chen) to good specs, the shaping and everything is supposed to be rather good, though they are not forge welded like the Cicada Forge blades, and are more-or-less spring tempered and have no hamon.

It is my opinion that at least the Japanese-style blades will be decent for the price. He said that apparently Lynn Thompson wanted swords that could do the "bend a blade over your head and return to true" type of thing...which obviously doesn't sit well with me, but on the upside, to beginners at tameshigiri who have a little more money to spend than a Kris Cutlery or Chen PK, this would be a low to midrange price sword that will be forgiving in bad cuts and will handle fairly well.

These are about as non-traditional as I like. I just hope they aren't marketed to the wrong people for the wrong reasons. Hope this clarifies some things...I still haven't handled or seen one personally, but knowing from whom they are made is a relieving clue.

Shinryû.
