Has anyone seen a zytel ti-lite that has been slimmed down. The handles are pretty thick. Looks like the scales can be removed and sanded down. Can this be done?

ooo that is a good idea. I have carried a tilite 6incher for about 2 years and have always wished it was thinner. Laying down on it is not... comfortable. post pics if you are able to do this.

Well, you guys got me wondering about this myself, so I opened up my zytel 6". You can see what the inside of the scales look like. I don't have the 4" anymore, and I know it's got a different pattern on the scales, but I'll bet it's constructed the same way. I guess you could pop 'em off and file/sand them thinner from the inside, but it'd be tough to get 'em as perfectly flat as they are from the factory. It looks like you'd also have to shorten all the little nuts and bolts that hold the knife together (including the pivot) to match the new thinness of the handle. More work than I'm willing to put into it, but it looks like it could be done.

WOW, thanks for the great pic. Might make some flat/textured scales from G10, CF, or a decent wood. Simple enough to trace a stencil and cut/sand. Lots of thin stock of exotic materials at gun shows for gun grips. Might try the stock grips first since cheap enough. Was thinking a belt sander might do well.

ETA: Sanding the stock scales would make access to the thumbstud easier for conventional deployment. I would just grind down the screws to fit. Any idea the screw size, thread, pitch etc?
