Are the Cold Steel (non-Vietnam) tomahawk heads secure on the handle or do they slide around? If they aren't secure, does this interfere with the effectiveness of chopping with them? If you haven't guessed already, my area is woefully bereft of any quality cutlery dealers (unless you count "Coleman" multi-tools), so I have to look at pictures and guess (with the exception of the great help I get here!).

The handles are a friction fit but they are not round in cross section so the edge stays facing in one direction. If you mean will the head slide up and down the handle, mine haven't, but that is how the handle is removed and replaced. The handles on mine have loosened a bit after sitting inside and drying out , but that is an old problem with axes and such. The slight play that causes hasn't bothered me enough to fix it.

soak your handle, with the head on,in some oil such as old motor oil and it will swell back up and stay tight almost indefinitly. I did this to a hawk of mine 10 years ago and no play as of yet.I soaked mine for a week or so.
