I used the trailhawk for few years now!
On all those years I can't find a knife with the same capabilities for chopping!
I think that an axe of the same size or more big maybe will chopp better;

But, a Busse FFBM I don't think that approaches the same result!
The FFBM is maybe a better with batoning vs trailhawk but no on the chopp side!?
Especially if I put more lever(A Longer handle)

What do you think?

True or False?

It's a matter of physics -- the axe or hawk has most of the weight int he head, and the longer the haft, the more force will be applied to the edge. Combine that with less edge -- especially on a hawk -- and you get much more force on an even smaller area, leading to deeper chops.

The only thing I know of that can outchop a hatchet or hawk of equal length, but not weight, is a kukri. But there, look at the design. The recurved blade puts most of the mass towards the end, the thickest part of the blade being over the sweet spot. The sweeping curve of the forward section means very little of the actual edge length makes initial contact with what is being chopped. Same principle, different approach to accomplish the same thing.

Thanks for the explanation:thumbup:
Well I never use a kukri but will be nice to use one:)
