What knife is better for camping and survival the Carbon 5 Trailmaster or the Reeve one piece?

Both are awesome knives in their own right. The Chris Reeve is probably sharper out of the box, due to the thick edge on the Trailmaster. Also, you can store goodies in the handle of the Reeve. The Trailmaster is damn near indestructable, but then again, so is the Reeve. Grab a coin and toss it. You cant go wrong either way.

Well you will probably get a little better corrosion resistance from CRK one piece as opposed to carbon V.I would say all around survival knife would tip the scales toards the Chris Reeves. The trailmaster probably would chop best out of the two.Handles on the trailmaster would be more comfortable.Either way, both would serve the purposes well.Chow,Ralph

both of those are among the best trail/survival knives available. I would lean towards the CS just because its a billet knive and because you can store mathces, whatever in the handle. Its also non reflective which is good in case you are hunting anything..

The Trailmaster should easily out chop the Project (50% +/- 10%) but this will only be significant on wood 4x4 sized or bigger and will only happen if you use a heavy power base for your chopping. There is also a larger one piece that should hold its own with the Trailmaster chopping wise.

The corrosion resistance of the Reeve's A2 is significantly higher even with the coating removed than Carbon V and the coating is fairly durable in the first place, much more so than what Cold Steel offers.

The handle on the Project is much more durable (wear, impacts and chemicals) and secure. Both grips have been described as being uncomfortable causing blistering and the like depending on who you ask. Reeves all metal grip may give you problems in high and low temperatures.

Reeve makes a much more durable and functional sheath.

The spear point Project has a more durable point configuration than the clip point Trailmaster prying wise, of course the Trailmaster has better penetration.

The spine on the one piece knives is well rounded making it more comfortable to use over all.

The Project is available with serrations that work well on cord and such and with or without the dual guard which can be a hinderance to some work. The Trailmaster is plain edge only and the guard is standard and losens easily.

Both hold an edge well under low stress slicing and heavy chopping. Carbon V chips out easily on hard impacts, I would assume Reeves A2 is more durable in this regard based on the little I have seen in this area buy have not really looked at it in detail.

Reeves is also much easier to communicate with through the net.

For the price of one CR knife, you can more than likely buy BOTH a Carbon V, AND a Stainless Cold Steel Trail Master Bowie, and have the "best of both worlds".

Keep in mind the TM can be purchased for 137 (cheapest I've seen) and a larger CR will be over 300. I think the largest CR is still 2 inches under the 9in TM. But I would still get the CR for the quality, assuming I had enough to spend on that sort of stuff, which I don't.

I suck! How come I didn't know that? Well, given a choice between the two nine inchers, I would get the CR. I'll probably be 40 by the time I can afford it though.
