Hey yall,
I was looking through the Cold Steel web site and found this knife: http://www.coldsteel.com/tripleactions.html it says it is as strong or stronger that a butterfly knife. and it seems to resemble a balisong a little bit in my mind, so how does it open and close?? I cant figure it out, and I was hoping some one here might have handled/owned one. thanks,
Jeff

if you order the catalogue, inside it has photos of how the knife works...i think they should put these pictures on the website to make it easier for everyone.

i will try my best to explain it with words;
there is a pivot next to the lanyard hole on the bottom of the handle, and half of the handle swings out, showing a notch that the thumb stud fits into when it closes. the handle halves are both empty like a butterfly, and the blade can slide into them and the handle half closes on the blade. it is really difficult to explain, but very easy to understand when you see the picture.

EDITED to add: http://youtube.com/watch?v=voD3-mLC5aY (if you watch carefully, you can see how it works)

You'd be better off with a real butterfly.

They're stronger. The handles are way beefier on butterfly knives. And most butterfly knives actually have some sort of finger guard which the CS Triple Action does not.

wow I have to admit, that knife is pretty "gay" if you will....

After watching that pathetic video and how they attempted to do tricks like it was a balisong is really shameful. Get a real bali.

Think of it as a butterfly with one more fold in the action. The purpose of the knife is to look like something other than a knife when it is folded up. I think it does that reasonably well.

I have several balisongs already. and just ordered an arc angel 2'nd. I was just curious about this knife. and that video is almost pathetic when they do the tricks......... but you can see how it opens at least. lol. thanks for the replies,.

looks like a LEO could take one look at that and say "Gravity Knife"!

One handed operation looks unnecessarily difficult. Like the idea of a 2x sided knife as a folder though.. (though the only real purpose of a blade style like that is for killing..)

I've got some personal experience with these and I can tell you it's in your best interest to steer clear. The handles are flimsy aluminum, deploying the knife is ridiculous, and it is impractical in ANY situation unless you absolutely, positively, must look really cool in the eyes of teenage mallrats. It only takes a few minutes of playing with it to realize that accidentally slamming the handle into the tip of the blade is way easier than opening the knife successfully. I'm guessing this is why 'Cold Steal' opted for soft aluminum handles rather than something more durable, I'm sure they're saving themselves a real headache over broken tip complaints. Waste of money IMHO.
