CS True Flight as a utility blade?

Hi, all

I was wondering if the True Flight Thrower would make a good working knife since its steel is carbon V. Is it heated differently than CS's other carbon V offerings? Thanks!

Most throwers are tempered quite a bit softer than a normal blade because they want them to bend on impact, not break. Since they are tempered softer they usually will not take as fine an edge or keep an edge as long as a blade designed for normal uses.

Probably would make a decent utility knife, though if you're planning on using it as such and not throwing it I'd reprofile the edge a bit thinner. The line on the heat treating is that they leave it tough to "bounce back from any throw" so I'd guess that it's a little soft. I think the Bushman, for the same money, makes a much better working knife, as it should be a tad harder (not tempered for throwing) and has better edge geometry. Won't be as strong for digging/prying, but will cut much better.
