is it just me or does my AK 47 wave out perform my Emerson cqc8 wave? Or am I just doing it wrong ? it seems like Emerson only waves correctly in certain jeans... But my AK47 or my Spartan never fails.

Sounds about right to me.

I've realized that the CS wave catches on shorts, the Emerson has a difficult time doing that. But I might be doing it wrong as well.

Ok good so I'm not alone in this... I wish my Emerson waved as easily as my AK47 obviously if I spend 200$ on a blade I want to use it

There is an excellent possibility that you are either doing it wrong or the pivot screw is too tight. I have never had a problem with an Emerson wave, yet I have found that the CS wave on my AK-47 will hang-up on my pocket. Both types require a slightly different method of deployment.

This keeps coming up, but yeah, I think Emerson makes the wave feature a bit too small. It's much more intuitive to get waved knives from CS, Spyderco and Fox to deploy.

I have no problem waving out my Emersons when I want, but I also know how to take them out when I don't want to use the wave (don't need to use it all the time, especially if i'm not trying to attract attention). I just angle the spine of the blade towards 4 o'clock and take it out of the pocket. Never failed on my yet.

Maybe ill keep trying... I do love the knife but I can only get it to snap in certain jeans

Not sure if I ever shared my experience on this matter.

So the deal with Emerson waves is that sometimes you fail to deploy the blade due to the thumb disc. Occasionally the disc, being wide and in front, will contact the pocket lip first causing it to skip over the wave. The issue is more noticeable the tighter the edge of your pocket is, less noticeable on looser baggy pants with bigger pockets. Drawing the knife slightly tilted does help, or drawing the knife straight up to attempt catching only the wave.

The CS version tends to work better because it basically combined the wide disc with the wave, although sometimes it'll get caught up on thinner fabric materials.

The best wave deployment comes from blades with a thumbhole(CQC-10, Karambit, Traveler), as there is no studs or discs to possibly interfere.

With that said, I also don't like Spyderco wave designs as the wave is too far forward and too big(Endura/Delica).

Thank you for clearing that up... it makes sense. I guess it just takes practice

I think J Skillz is correct. My AK 47, Spartan and even my Rajah's 1 and 11 open reliably and in a flash. I never get tired of seeing that 6" Rajah blade snap out of my pocket.

Lol Larry same with my Spartan.... Could you imagine a XL espada being waved out of ur pocket

Actually I do have both the large and the X- Large Espadas [the cheaper black handled versions] and both come flying out of the pocket! I guess I had a bit of a mental block when I posted above and I forgot about them.
I'm sure the new Talwars are going to open just as well. [ I can't resist large folders]

I'll be getting a plainedge 4" Talwar. Need to drill and tap new pocket clip holes so that it rides with about 2" sticking out of the pocket. Deep carry clips and wave draw is no go.
