Posted in another thread that I was interested in the CSAR and would be using it primarily as a folding nighthawk. I commented that I was really interested due to it appearing from an ergonomic stance a beefed up Alpha which I love, though that may just be in appearance since the purpose is definately much different between those two.

So, what about the CSAR in contrast with the Strider versions of Buck? For ya'll that have both of these how would you contrast them? Somewhat similar or two completely different beasts?

I have own or have owned almost every Strider BUCK folder made. I like the tops better hands down. Granted it's heavy.. But I like that... Stronger Liner.. The only upgrade i would like to see in the new knife is partally serated

Im sure you will Dave:)

I dont want to be a wet rag but I never liked the look of the Sriders-I thought the handles all looked cheap like a gumball machine knife. Just my opinion, dont throw anything;)

I love the look of the Csar

after looking at the specs/design more looks like a better "comparison" would be between the csar and the bravo. i'll probably pick a csar up at some point anyway just to have. got a bravo and nighthawk bravo on the way just to see what that besh wedge stuff is all about.

before coming here never even noticed the different blade types and now trying to get a sample of all types and materials so i can start "educating" myself on the merits and appreciate what works best for each situation for me

Hey Fritz, your opinion is worth just as much as anyone elses here. :) No ones gonna throw anything.

I don't care for the striders myself or the CSAR either for that matter.

But here's what's great about all the different opinions and likes and dislikes. If everyone liked the same things and and disliked the same things we wouldn't have the great variety to choose from that's available!

Just curious,,,, is it the handle shapes or the materials?

Question to you also Dave.

Both actually, but probably 60%shape 40% handle material appearance. This is on folders as I havent given fixed a whole lot of consideration and cant really even get a mental picture.

I do however like the Czar all the way around. I dont like tanto blades or besch wedge designs but this really, at least to my eyesight doest resemble either even though I think they call it a modified tanto.

I guess when it all comes down to it, its apearance likes are vastly subjective. Thats why God made blondes, brunettes and redheads:thumbup::D

I guess for me the main thing is I just don't care for the tacticool look.

The Strider Buck I have has handles so abrasive feeling that I figure I could use it to rasp a horses hoof if I needed to.:p I feel like I need to wear gloves when handlng it to keep from getting abrasions on my hands.

The CSAR on the other hand, doesn't have that feel to it.

Thanks Guys,,

I have a couple of the 889's that If I should ever decide to make users, would probably smooth them down some. The one big fixed I have is much smoother.

but for now they are shelf rats.

man its been a while and i am not sure
i did like it a lot and first thought was
i could cut my way out of any thing with this

well from an appearance perspective to my tastes the csar is "ok" and the Strider is "a bit much". i tend to prefer more traditional looking knives. for a one hand folder can handle the vantage avid but will probaby leave the pro at home even though it is a "better" knife. the avid goes along with my stockman a little better. for my needs the alpha is the best in one hand open as it looks similar to my 110 on a belt.

but for a first try at Bucks tatical type trying to pick between the strider and csar, but as far as appearance definately the csar.
