Been wanting to play with one of these for a while and saw them online for great price back in july. I'll probably end up giving it to my son or his friend. Anyway, I saw what I thought were two gobs of paint on the bit end of the wedge, but it is actually the head of two (different sized) nails:

The paint looked original, though I scratched it trying to get rid of what I thought were gobs of paint. Is this a factory response to metal wedges slipping? Anybody else seen this?

PS. 300Six, the background might hold some interest for you, a patina'd f150 with the legendary 300 six cylinder! Good truck when you don't want to worry about a paint job. Wish they still used that engine, which I assume is the source of your handle.

Good guess! Unfortunately your's is a 'newer' version. Mandating of EFI entirely defeated the sheer simplicity of maintenance and working on (plus reduce the fuel economy) of those wonderful engines.

I thought so! It's been a long time since that truck was called "newer" :).

I thought it was "thirty-aught-six".

But I've owned a few straight sixes, too. Good motors, whether they be Fords, Chevys or Chryslers. Not for the track. But they go and go and go.
