Got a small garden shed with a shackle & hasp to lock together its two doors, one of which bolts to the floor. Since this evening was pretty windy, I figured I'd make a wooden peg to at least secure the doors together so they wouldn't blow open. I grabbed my fave folding Japanese pruning saw from Tashiro Hardware and my Swamp Rat Camp Tramp out of my "grab 'n go" pack, plus a scrap of pine 2x4 to cut/carve the peg out of. After using the saw to trim off about a 4-inch hunk of 2x4, I used the CT and more 2x4 as a baton to easily split the trimmed scrap to approximately the right total fatness. Then it was time to taper the peg.
So's I start carving into the pine wood of the 2x4 scrap with the CT. Now the CT is nowhere near shaving sharp, but **DAYUM** did that chunky wide blade ever rip off a few big chunks, then peel little bitty curls off that 2x4 sweetly as I tuned the taper of the peg. Took no time at all and the job was done. Too little time it seemed.
I wanted to keep on just cutting and carving those little curls off because it was so much fun to exercise that kind of control with a blade that big. But the peg was in the door and it was dinnertime, so the tools got stowed back in the pack and I came in to eat.
I'm gonna have to liberate the CT from the "grab 'n go" bag more often. I'd forgotten how much unadulterated fun it is to use that beastie.
