This is a long term observation on CTS-20CP after a lot of use at work.

As some know CTS-20CP is Carpenter's vers of CPM S90V and I had tested both of these before in Para 2's at factory thickness on both the Forums and on Video.

I had this one reground awhile back and had been using it off and on along with some testing, but lately for the past Month in a half or so it's been my work EDC. Been used cutting cardboard, plastic, shrink wrap and anything else that has been needed. The performance has been great with no rolling or chipping out even with the thin grind of .009" behind the edge and the hardness of 60 HRC.

As one can see from the Photos it's very thin and with that it literary cuts like a razor knife, but it holds an edge for an extremely long time. I only had to touch up the edge twice in a month and a half and that's only been light stropping. I have not noticed any edge issues and that's exceptional IMO considering what I have been cutting and how thin it's ground.

CTS-20CP is an excellent steel that gets extremely sharp and holds an edge for a very, very long time and I hope we see more of it in the future from Spyderco.

It will turn it into a scalpel. :D

Awesome! I had this done with several folders a while back as well, and they are definitely my favorites for usage. I did notice much more benefit to steels 60 HRC and above than those hardened below 60.

It always freaks people out to hear that thin edges last longer... :D

Yes it does. :)

Very nice Jim! You've got great taste in cutting implements!

Tom Krein was nice enough to regrind a 20CP para for me to about .010 behind the edge. I took the blade and put it in a black handle, and it is my most used knife.
Cuts for a long time, and resharpens very easily. I would like to send him a couple more when I get the time.

Excellent post!!

Thanks for the update concerning how this steel performs ground thin with good HT. Maybe when finances improve I can try it myself...
BTW, alot of the older German high quality slipjoints had very thin primary grinds behind the edges. Unfortunately that went by the wayside.

Yeah, the better slip joints really perform, the ones with good steel. :)
