Would a 20 degree edge work on a folder with this steel? Would 25 degrees be better? I would rather have a edge that was a slicer even if you have to sharpen it more. I remember the old farmers I would work with and they would carry a old slipjoint, but boy they would cut. A lot of them carried a little pocket stone and would touch the blade up everyday. I mostly cut briars and small limbs out of the trail when I walk the dog everyday. I would like to have a frame lock that would cut like the old slipjoints. Is this possible?

Ultimately you can only get so much improvement by changing the angle at the edge, as in it will cut better than the same knife at a more obtuse angle. After that, if comparing to other knives you're looking at having the entire blade thinned out.

Many of the old folding knives sported much thinner blade stock than is now fashionable to find in a "tactical" knife. It makes a huge improvement in overall cutting, to the point where the actual edge angle can be less acute but will still cut better than a thicker bladed tool.

I go 15 per side on most everything. My XHP knives easily handle this edge angle.

FWIW, I always profile my XHP blades to 15 degrees, seems like a good tradeoff.

I run everything from H1 to S110V at 12 degrees per side with a 15 degree per side microbevel.
