Hey I need to make a choice fairly shortly about which of these steels I want, basicly do I want to pick up the new manix 2 in greein with CTS-XHP or the CF Sage I. Basicly for me I like both knives but what steel is going to preform better over time.

Honestly, I don't have enough time on the CTS-XHP steel to give a fair comparison to the Sage 1 but seeing as how the M2 is a sprint, I would pick that up first. The Sage 1 will be made as long as the demand is there. And when it does go out of production, and I hope it never does, there will be plenty of warning and hopefully some good closeout deals to follow.

Even with limited time, I'm loving the CTS-XHP. It does seem to hold an edge longer than S30v.

You're asking me to choose between my two most favorite Spydies. That's not fair. I have the Sage 1 in my pocket and the M2 in my bag. :)

Hey may I just add my two cents ?
I don't think you will "feel" the difference. The ergos and feel of both knives got much more differences than those steels which are both excellent.
I'll go for the Sage I. It's a limited edition older than the Manix 2 in Carpenter Steel.

I'd go with the Manix 2. You don't know how many of these they're going to make and I really like mine.

Plus these are two entirely different kind of knives. I have both and like the Sage too. But I would jump on the foliage green Manix 2.

Nemo's right about the knives' ergos, etc. being far more significant than the steels. I like both, and I have a Manix with S30V as well as CTS-XHP as well as a Sage 2, but I'd go for the Manix in CTS-XHP, personally.

I have both of those knives, and the sage almost always wins out for my pocket time

I don't have a CTS-XHP Spyderco blade but I really like that steel on my xm-18. Get the sprint run. You can pick the sage up anytime.

I prefer CTS-XHP over S30V. If you have an opportunity to get the Manix, you should do it while you can. As others have said, the Sage will be readily available for some time.

I have a sage and absolutely love it, it has dominated my folding EDC needs since i got it.

At first glance the thing that stands out most to me is the difference in blade geometry between these two knives. The Sage is probably the best slicer i have ever used! Its FFG Leaf blade just slides through everything.

I don't have a Manix 2, but with its Saber grind and drop point, i would think it would have very different cutting characteristics. I would think this would make more of a difference than the blade steel here.

So i would say, it depends on the type of cutting you want to do with it. As people have said, the Manix is a sprint run, so buy it if you want it. I love my Sage I, and i wouldn't trade it for any sprint run (except maybe a better sage 1, hint hint).

The sprint run on the manix is ffg

Congrats on the new knife. It's a different animal (no pun intended) compared to the Tenacious. The blade shape, finger choil, G-10 texture, blade steel, locking mechanism...

Wow, the only thing similar is the weight and the logo. :)

The first time I held that knife, I disengaged the lock while holding it horizontal. Damned if the blade didn't swing back and cut my knuckle. I never had a Spydie with a pivot that smooth.

Im pretty excited for it to come in to be honest It should ship out today from a member here on the forums so Im hoping that it arrives by friday lol.

My mistake on the grind of the sprint. I was looking at a picture online at knifecenter that showed a sabre grind.

it clearly states that the actual production piece has a flat grind but apparently I'm illiterate ;).

That makes it a tougher call for sure, follow your heart.
