So I missed the foilage green manix earlier and the spyderco outlet originally said they were getting more in september. I kept calling and there was never any more. At one time the guy said it would become a stock item. Today the guy I spoke with said he knew nothing about that and it was discontinued. He mentioned there was one with a black handle though in that steel. So I got on the spyderco site but could not find it. So, are there any knives being made with this steel?
Thanks.

Sounds like some serious miscommunications? There are no Spyderco knives currently in their catalog in CTS-XHP. Sal Glesser has stated that there will be others in the future, however.

The black handled Manix 2 is the standard version with 154CM steel. Perhaps this last person you spoke with thought you were referring to M2 in general and not specifically the XHP blade version. The XHP was always presented as a sprint run in any description/discussion I ever saw. Same for the S30V and S90V.

CTS-XHP manix was sprint run , you can still find them in exchange forum , great steel , love mine .

Yep, saw one on there 2 days ago. I don't think Carpenter made enough steel in a quantity large enough to provide it to all the interested parties at the time. The black made Manix2 is simple a reglar Manix2 with all black hardware, nice.

I seem to recall an upcoming sprint run of the Para2 with the Carpenter steel. Maybe you could get on a list for it?

Yes - though (maybe better), it will be CTS-20P, the Carpenter equivalent of CPM-S90V.

Yep -- I'm curious as to the shade of "gray G-10" that will be used...

Probably the same as the gray used by Halpern for the gray Mule scales. There's a pic thread here somewhere. I'm not a fan of that color, and I like most colors of G10...oh well... :)

where do I find the part numbers for these? I got on spyderco and can see the sprint discussion but a part number may help to preorder. I googled para CTS-20P and came up with this site and spyderco but no sites that took preorders. Thanks.

I think it's the product number you want -- SP81GGY20CP2. That's the one for the sprint run Paramilitary 2 w/ CTS-20P and gray G10, (expected) release date Jan. 2011. It's $45 cheaper than the CF S90V sprint run Para:). I believe searching that number will bring you to at least one retailer's pre-purchase page, which is likely sold out.

I'm actually looking forward to this one moreso than the CF S90V version (which I bought anyway;)). CF does nothing for me, especially with its attendant price increase. And gray is a bit more interesting than black, even if just marginally so. And let's not forget the almost $50 cheaper price tag! I'm very curious about how Carpenter's CTS-20P steel sharpens and behaves on the stones and diamonds compared to Crucible's S90V.

If anyone does have pics of Halpern's gray G10 from the Mule, I'd really appreciate a peek.

Thanks, Warrior! That gray is about what I expected. Looks a lot like foliage green, in my opinion. I think it's a subtle, tasteful, inconspicuous colour for a pocket knife handle.
