Cuba Wood?

Well, I was parusing (sp?) the wood species samples in one the wall by one of my forest products labs, and noticed a particularly attractive species simply called "Cuba" (Maba crassinervis). Has anybody even heard of this wood? Google came up with nothing, and I've never seen or heard of it before. With such a dark, virtually black color, it must have a high extractives content, so it shouldn't need stabilized, and it seemed quite hard too...

It may be some new plantation grown wood or it may be trying to say it's from "Cuba", without giving it a name. I've been working wood for well over 30 years now, and I've never hear of Cuba wood..... that doesn;t mean it doesn;t exist, of course. There is a "Macauba" wood that is sometimes called "Macacuba" and hails from Africa, I believe, but it's reddish brown and very dense.
