I was checking out the Cuda the other day at a local knife store. I really like it alot. My one concern is with its legal status. I've heard that someone here in California was caught with one and is being prosecuted for carying a switchblade. Does anybody have info on this case? What is Camillus' position on and understanding of the legal status of the Cuda?

The case I heard about (and I don't know the disposition of it, if any) was about a Californian who was caught with a Camillus Lev-R-Lock, not a CUDA. The Lev-R-Lock is openly distributed and sold in California, so that may be an isolated case. As far as I know, the CUDA, the Kershaw-Onion, and the Cold Steel Tripple Actions have not been tested in a California courthouse.

Thanks for that clarification. I know you're not a lawyer, but, given your knowledge of California knife laws, what is your opinion of the legality of the Cuda?

California knife law is a mess. Unless you're talking to a Justice of the Supreme Court, you can't get a definitive opinion from anyone. Ideally, the courts would acknowledge that the current laws are unconstitutionally vague, an infringement on 2nd Amendment rights, and irrationally motivated; but don't count on that.
