I am interested in buying a Cuda Maxx 7.0 with a Stiletto (7 inch) blade. On the Camillus web site and other sites I have checked, they only have the Cuda Maxx with the 5.5 inch blade. I have found a couple of sellers on E-Bay with the Cuda Maxx 7.0, and decent prices, but not with the stiletto blade and one seller that I wasn't sure which blade it was and it was expensive. It's my understanding there are 3 types, Spear, Bowie and Stiletto. I was wondering if Camillus discontinued the Cuda Maxx 7.0 with the Stiletto blade or if anyone knew what was happening. If anyone knows a good source for this knife it would be appreciated. I think this knife is model number: CU2282, but I'm not sure. If anyone can confirm that or give me the correct model number that would be appreciated also.

For self defense purposes, what type of blade do you think would be the most effective? I want a blade that is effective for slashing, thrusts and blocking. I like the looks of the stiletto blade, but I am open for suggestion. Thanks for your help!

The 7" Cuda Maxx is a limited run. The only blade available is the spearpoint blade. However, if you contact Darrel Ralph, his son Ryan is doing a conversion of the spearpoint to bowie and adding bronze washers as well. I think Darrel still has some of the 7" Cuda Maxx's. Give him a call or drop an e-mail for his pricing.

For a do all blade shape, I tend to prefer the bowie style clip point. It will take care of most utilitarian tasks and is excellent in an SD role.

I would think the 7.0's spearpoint is as effective as a stiletto (dagger, really) for fighting. Only the 5.5s come in bowie and stiletto, though.

The spearpoint does look nice. The ones (stiletto) from Darrel Ralph are beautiful, but much more expensive. I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to get this by my wife now, LOL.

sheesh.. darrel ralph's custom work never ceases to amaze me. he's on a whole other level.

Darrel Ralph's work is great, but out of my league. I can get the Camillus Maxx 7.0 spearpoint for less than $250, it's $850 on up for Darrel Ralph's knives.

As I mentioned, contact Darrel about the 7" Cuda Maxx. He should still have some left and you can get the blade reprofiled to a bowie blade. He might even be able to do a San Francisco dagger conversion to the spear point. That would be about as close as you could get to a stiletto as possible, without going full custom. I think Darrel is charging $250 for the 7" Cuda and in the $30 range for grinding the blade to bowie or maybe a San Fran dagger.

Call him and talk to him. Trust me, Darrel will do what he can to get you as close to what you want as possible.

Dirk...thanks for both of your responses. I think I will give him a call, pretty cool to be able to contact him directly! I haven't handled the Maxx 7.0 yet. I'm pretty sure I will like it, but need to see if it feels right. I'm going to try to find one I can look at in the next day or so. I have been easing the wife into the idea of another knife.

hope this is related enough to post: Dirk, do you know if Darrel can put a spear point on a Maxx 5.5? or (GASP!) grind out the flame pattern on an Aftermath? (this would be my perfect Maxx dream)

The CUDA MAXX is, as previously stated, a limited run made in spearpoint only as far asa the Camilus production version is concerned. Roger at Bayou LaFourche Knifeworks is showing that he has them, although a call to his 800 number to check would certainly not be out of place. I have dealt with him extensively and never been less than extremely pleased with his service. He will bend over way backwards to help you.

BTW, it is one Hell of a knife, more of a pocket sword, really.

Thanks FullerH, good to know that Knifeworks is reputable. I'm going to try to find one to look at today, if possible. Most of the places I called yesterday don't have it, but can order it.

allyourblood- If you are asking if Darrel will put one of his spearpoints on a Camillus 5.5", then the answer is no. If I remember correctly, there is an agreement between Darrel and Camillus about Darrel modifying one of their knives by adding one of his custom pieces. As far as grinding off the flames....Give him a call, he might be willing to do that. He would need to insure the final thickness of the Ti is sufficient to provide the strength required for that size knife and that it wouldn't intrude upon the pocket for the beam spring used for the Robo Assist.

I'm having a hard time finding a Cuda Maxx 7.0 to look at. Would I be crazy to buy one without holding it first? I've heard a lot of good things about this knife and it looks like a great design.

that's what a lot of us do all the time. the knice thing about knives is that they retain their value pretty well. so long as you seek out a deal when you initially buy a knife, you can often get back exactly what you paid for it or sometimes even more, depending on how little use the knife receives before you decide it's "not for you".

i should add, this is one HUGE mother of a knife, so be prepared to find that it will take some getting used to as you attempt to carry it comfortably.

allyourblood...that's a good point about the knife retaining the value. I have a Benchmade Skirmish now and wanted to get something a little bigger. I was also thinking about trying to attach it to a key fob or whatever they call it so it would be concealed, it looks like keys. The Skirmish is much more noticeable clipped to my pocked than my Emerson CQC-7 was.

Take a piece of cardboard and draw and cut out a full size image of the knife. That will give you a more realistic idea of the size. When you hold the Maxx 7.0 just behind the guard, it is pretty well balanced. When you hold it further down toward the butt, you know you're holding a BIG knife, but it's still not outrageously heavy.

Esav Benyaman...thanks for that review I was wondering about the balance and the cardboard is a good idea. I have a SOG Navy Seal fixed blade with a 7 inch blade, but it is heavy.

The spear point is nice and would probably be just as effective for self defense purposes.

Can anybody please tell me what the San Francisco dagger that Dirk referred to is?

I can't find a Cuda Maxx 7.0 in any store around and I live in Southern California!! I think I will have to order it sight unseen, Kniveworks seems reasonable. I like titanium handles and also like the frame lock, I have both on my Skirmish. I can get the Cuda Maxx 7.0 a little cheaper on E-Bay, but like the fact that Kniveworks has been recommended by my fellow forum members.

Would still like to know what a San Francisco dagger is.
