I am looking for impressions after a couple of months of use. How are these holding up? How is the D2? I know there were a few problems with washers posted here. Have these been resolved?

Thanks.

Kirk

I posted earlier about a problem with washers, and everything is AOK now. Mine came with one washer missing. I've worked in manufacturing for a long time and I know these things can happen. I put some washers in that I had on hand, red-loctited the stop pins in the blade, blue loctited all other screws, polished out the tool marks on the flippers, and ground a choil at the back of the blade edge.

Since then, everything is perfect. No blade play, easy unlocking, blade centered, perfect lockup. The problem I had was one in a million, don't let it put you off from buying the knife.

I haven't used this knife much for utility use, so I'm not going to comment too much on the edge holding, except to say it seems fine to me. I will say that it hasn't rusted this summer, which has been the hottest summer in Ohio since the 1930's. My DDR EDC did develop a few tiny spots, but not the Cuda Maxx.

The only caveat I would give is to put red loctite on the stop pins as soon as you get the knife, they can come loose unless they're doing something different at the factory now. My knife was an early one.

Hi Hornet. My Maxx came out of the earlier run and I did not have the missing washer situation like Wirebender so I cannot comment in that area. However, I can report that after light use (i.e., opening junk mail, cutting open snack bags, slicing fruit and pasteries, cutting out coupons, etc.) the D2 blade has not needed re-sharpening. In fact, I would try steeling the blade before re-sharpening when that time comes. The Maxx is not a beater knife for me so I have nothing to report on how it handles "abuse."

Like Wirebender, I am also happy to report that I have not had a problem with rust on the D2 blade. The action of the blade has loosened up somewhat and it now flicks open very fast and smooth. In hindsight, I don't know why I was earlier concerned about the color of the ti handle--it doesn't mean beans today.

After owning/carrying the Maxx these last few months, I can honestly say that I still find the knife exciting--the honeymoon is not yet over. If you haven't bought one yet, I can't see how you could go wrong getting one whether it ends up being a user or a toy.

Lovin mine!!
Sorry the colors stink in the picture! It is DLC coated and heat colored . . . the front of the scale is really green and purple!

Nice job Jason, DDR didn't realize that Camillus was going to be a competitor for Knifekits.com! These knives beg for some individual touches.

It still puts a smile on my face every time I use it. Like toothed I mainly use it for simple openings and some food prep and I have had no problems at all. I hit the edge on something hard and got a small flat place on the edge. I passed it over my crock stix and it was good as new. I wear it in my pocket with other slipjionts in it and it hit them all the time without damaging the finish. No rust on discoloration on the blade at all.

Cuda Maxx 5.5:D :D :D

Jason I like what you've done to the place.;)

Thanks for the comments guys! The MAXX is unreal for a production blade! DLC is awesome for ANY blade!!:D  :D

Actually.., for a knife you can buy for $120-$130 on the internet...this is a pretty amazing knife. I've sharpened a bunch of 'em for friends, although the knife is to big for me to want personally.

Ti-Framed, Frame-Locking folders at this price point are pretty incredible.., so someone got some 6AL4V at a good price.. :)

I've had my Maxx for about 2 months, and wow! It is a great knife.
It has replaced my customs as my EDC. I had to tighten-up the pivot screw onece (now with locktite). Other than that it has been perfect. From slicing melons to self-defense, this puppy can do it all! It does raise some pulses when you bring it out though.

I'm now having the clip moved to the other end by a machinist, so it will open ala the "Waved" Commander. What a great design!!!
Bravo Mr.Ralph!

Best value in folding procuction knives bar none IMHO!:)
In fact it is so good, I don't even get tempted to buy the custom!

Just from my showing it around, three of my buddies got them...one even got one for his wife when she insisted on having one in her purse!:D

Don't hesitate...get one of these!

Just going around for the third time! I picked up my third Cuda MAXX as I had sold the previous two. I am still thinking hard about the DLC process and wanted to ask you Jason if you polished the blade any before you sent it in? The last one I had I spent a considerable amount of time on polishing the blade and got it pretty much to an almost mirror polish. I think that it would have coated very nicely at tat stage. How about the handle, any idea how it would come out if it were DLC'd?

Again this is my third and it is just as slick as the other two were. The handle is not as dark a blue as my second one was but I am sorta like toothed as I don't really care. I haven't had this one apart yet but did notice that the finish on the flippers was much better than the last two. In other words I do not have to get the Dremel cranked up to polish out the cutting marks as there are none.

I would expect the blade to be nothing but a superb cutter due to the high thin grind and the D2 steel it is made from. All three have come from Camillus sharpened to the point of popping the hair off my arm.

I am still amazed that Camillus can offer such a great knife for such a low price and not have to sacrifice ANYTHING in the process. They still include the nice zippered case with it.

Great knife, great value, great design, and great company!:D :) :D

I did not do anything to the blade before sending it in. I think Ti does great with DLC. I really like mine heat colored! The pics don't show it well but the colors came out great . . . just get a torch and heat it evenly til glowing and then let it cool.

I did that on another knife and the ball-bearing detent popped out! Any problems with yours? I did do a second knife with no problems except that I held the torch too close to a particular area and it came out looking a bit funny. Yours looks like it came out good though. Propane torch?

Yep! I lost my bearing detent too! Gotta put it back . . . I used a simple propane torch. Did not know to watch out for the detent ball!

Hey........you live and you learn. Sometimes the hard way! Course those are the best lessons because they will stay with you.:)
