Just got used CUDA MAXX, and have few maintenance questions

1. There are some minor rust on the blade. How to remove it? (and how to prevent from getting more rust) It’s my first not stainless knife, so all info on the topic is highly appreciated

2. I was unable to find what kind of crew is on thumb studs (or maybe it should be called blade stoppers?). It’s sure not torx, it don’t look like hex either. Any ideas ?

3. And the last one – how open this thing? I mean flippers are ok, if you have space & stuff, but what to do if you around the people? Any other way to more discrete (slowly) open it ?

Try getting some knife polish and polish the rust off. You can also pick up some Tuf-glide, I think that should also take off rust.

Since D2 is a semi-stainless, about 12.5% chromium, it will rust if not cared for. A good polish will do wonders for the rust. You will need to lightly polish the entire blade. A good coat of hard wax will also offer a degree of protection. The thumbstud is a torx. It is seated deeper in the hole and you can't see it well but try a #10 torx bit, if not 10, then an eight. Yes those are blade stoppers and not opening studs. The flipper is the only way to open. You don't have to slam it open everytime though as that does tend to scare people. You can still use the flippers to gently, but in a controlled manner open the knife. Of course the size alone is going to freak a lot of people, regardless of whether you open fast or slow.

My friend opens his in public by slightly pushing on the flipper and then using the blade stop to open the blade completely.

Steve

Thank you for your answers.

Maybe someone could recommend "good polish" that I could find in my friendly neighborhood Siers, Ace, Walmart or similar place ?

........that I would highly recommend "Mothers Mag & Aluminum Polish" I have been tinkering with knives for 20 plus years and this includes cleaning and polishing them up and have yet to find anything better than this. I have almost mirrored a Cuda MAXX blade using this stuff! It is GREAT!

Take Art's recommendation. I did after reading his post about polishing his Maxx. Mother's works great and is much less expensive than Flitz or Simichrome, etc. I got mine at Walmart. It should be available at any auto supply store as well.

Thanks Art!
