Is this system any good? does it really work? Is it fast and convienient? It seems hard to believe.

ayryq - Welcome to the forums! In answer to your question, yes the CUDA sliding button opening system really does work. The blade rides on a phosphor bronze bushing which promotes smooth action. The button itself is of 17-4PH steel and is able to pivot along with your thumb as it goes through the opening cycle. The big button is easier to seek out that a smaller thumbstud - I found out the best way to carry a CUDA folder is clipped to the right hand pocket. When you extract the knife, your thumb automatically rests on the disc. Using the disc as a pivot point, the handle swings down to where you can grab it securely and push up on the button to open the blade. all the while, your thumb does not leave the disc. Also, the big textured opening disk makes it easy to open with work gloves on. Hope this info helps!

Be careful. The Cuda's way of opening can be habit forming.

Dexter, the opening disc as an indexing point brings up a question. I' ve not handled any of the CUDA series often. Has anyone tried any _RAPID_ draws from the pocket and have inadvertantly slid the disc forward enough to cause partial blade opening?

Nakano - I can see your concern. Though, I have not tried it yet but I'll wager a guess by saying that since your index finger is also gripping the handle on the clip side of the knife upon withdraw, that in itself is enough to keep the knife from moving during withdraw. And since the opening button rotates freely during the re-orientation of the knife in your grip, any forward movement of the button is curtailed until you deliberately push up on it. Also, since the button's travel path is an arc, this also helps to keep it from moving forward inadvertently. Hope this helps (and not confuse you
