Was checking out this knife at the gun show Sat.
Looks like a tough knife. Anyone out there own/used one?
Or anything in TALONITE for that matter.
The Co. also is very helpful, and their prices seemed fair.
Thanks!
One more thing, they also had the same knife in 154 for
about $150.00 less than the $249.00 version in Talonite.
Thoughts? Is it worth $150 more?

Talonite is an amazing blade material. It has the strange property of really good edge retention, and easy sharpening. Usually you have to choose one or the other. It will not rust. It also seems to cut cut cut cut long after it feels dull and long after other steels are long done.

It is quite a bit more expensive than even the best steels out there, so the question is, is talonite worth it for *you*. That can be a hard question to answer.

I own the talonite Cuda Talon, and I love it. It's a very well balanced, well designed knife that really shines in talonite. I bought it for a hunting/field dressing knife but I find myself constantly using it as my kitchen knife and just about everything else I need a knife for around the house.

I just ordered the Camillus EDC in talonite. I'm really looking forward to the daily use my folders get so I can see how it compares.

I find myself looking at knives and wishing they were offered in talonite. I guess I've become a talonite nut.

It's expensive. For some people it's worth it.

I have one and have used it to skin deer, cut meat, and cut veggies. I had Kenny Rowe make me a "back pocket" sheath for mine. It is a great design (Simonich) and talonite is wonderful knife material. I think it is one knife well worth the price. I will have a talonite EDC ASAP

I have both the Talon and Mini Talon and consider them to be excellent knives. One or the other tends to be my daily carry. Copfish the moderator is a Talonite junkie for sure, as well as others around here. If you do a search in Knife Reviews and Testing you'll find more than you ever wanted to know about Talonite. Some love it, some think it's BS, read it and decide for yourself!

If you do a little hunting you'll find them for less than $249 as well.

I'm sold on Talonite. It is by far the most easy to maintain blade material I've yet had the pleasure to use. I've had a Mini-Talon for over a month now, and have put it through its paces. Talonite is brain-dead easy to keep sharp, with just the occasional stropping. It also cuts ike crazy!!! Nothing comes even close when it comes to cutting materials like cardboard and leather.

I like Talonite so much that I placed an order for a Talonite EDC this afternoon. And with a little luck, I'll be getting a full-sized Talonite Talon next month.

I probably wouldn't use Talonite for chopping in a survival situation, but I can't imagine ever wanted another blade material for normal cutting taksks.

Thanks for the link Buzz.
$89.00 for CUDA Talon 154CM
$199.00 for Talonite.
Great price on the 154, but
after hearng your satisfaction with Talonite,
I guess its worth the extra $$$$$$.
Either one will make a great skinner.
I know its hard to say, but how much longer
will the Talonite hold its edge? Twice as long?
Again great link.

Have a chance to pick up an Abel knife and pliers. Abel is noted for fine fishing reels, anyone have any experience or knowledge of their knives ?
Thanks,
Mrdi

Abel makes some of the best flyreels on the market (I own several). Their pliers are nice but expensive. Comparable pliers (machined aluminum with replacable stainless cutting jaws) can be bought from cabelas for less.

Abel knives used to be made by benchmade but now they make their own. They have very nice 154cm blades and you can get them with some very cool anodized handles. Some of the patterns are really wild. However, the current production liner locks can be very substandard (my local flyshop has had 10 or so and 3/4 of the liner locks I would not trust)and I would recommend you inspect them before buying them.

As far as the cuda talon goes, the talonite blade is excellent and worth the price.

Go to the Camillus forum and ask Will if I'm lying.
Great knife. Keeps on cutting and cutting and cutting and...well,you get the idea.

BUY IT.

FYI, I have this magazine here called knives illustrated (don't know the rep of this mag... can't get my hands on blade in the local mall) and it has an article on the EDC Talonite folder. It claimed that for a big knife company, 420HC is like 72 cents per pound, ATS34 is around 4-5, and Talonite is like 100 per pound.
If that's correct, that would be scary.
The author of that article like the metal too.

Talonite rulz! I do like the stuff, Tom Mayo, Trace Rinaldi, Neil Blackwood, Simonch, et al can do wonders with the stuff. I carry a med/large TNT as an EDC, Simonich neck knife is usually around my neck (Sorry Larry, the Gambit is too pretty to carry) and my Rinaldi TTTKK is my most used knife in the kitchen. I am sold on the stuff, but you must weigh the cost factor. To me is is worth it for the edge durability.

They contacted me today and said it was in stock, and would ship Monday for $211.50 (after shipping and insurance).
