Hello!

Today I would like to show you my two Spanish and very ergonomic fixed knives suitable for the survival, bushcraft and hunting activities. One of these knives I use for a hard tasks and the second one is for my collection.

Cudeman MT-5 120-K Cocobolo and 120-M Micarta:

The knives were made in Spain, in Albacete, by Cudeman company also known as the Elephant brand for its logotype, which really fits the MT-5 knives.

During my photographic adventures in the outdoors I was using previously a LionSteel M2 Cocobolo knife but I decided to change it for the Cudeman MT5 120-K Cocobolo knife a while ago. M2 is rather a hunting knife, the Cudeman MT5 is more versatile and can be used simultaneusly as a survival, bushcraft and hunting knife. Cudeman is a little bigger, thicker and fits better for wood processing, additionaly its nice belly is also good for skinning.

11 cm blades are made of Bohler N695 steel hardened to 58-60 HRC, an equivalent of very good 440C steel which I really like because it holds the edge well and sharpens easily to a hair shaving. I think that it is very important in all survival / bushcraft knives - the MT-5 can be easy sharpened on a natural stone in the outdoor.

Bolsters are made of A-304 steel. All screws are aligned equally with the handle surface. Steel has nice satin finish, but I found also more tactical version with a black coating.

The handles are comfortable and they give very good grip. The micarta version feels even more grippy than cocobolo wood. Additionally beautiful micarta pattern is well complemented by red fiber liners. Quite big ricasso gives a good base for a forefinger during precision works, while protruding part of the guard stabilizes the hand against slipping. Two holes near the handle together with included lanyard can be used for additional hand safety or for mounting the knife on a stick to do some kind of a spear. The metal end of the handle can be used for crushing stones, nuts etc or as a glass breaker. Full tang construction with thickness of 5 mm gives very good power during chopping, batoning and whittling, but on last camping with my family the knife also served surprisingly well during the food preparation, bread cutting, buttering, slicing etc.

But the biggest advantage of the Cudeman MT5 is a high quality very ergonomic leather sheath. It can be used in vertical or horizontal position and additionally it fits easily to a Molle system, thanks to the two leather straps with velcro. A version with kydex sheath with a fire steel included is also available, but I am delighted by horizontal mounting possibility with the leather sheaths.

Summing up, I am very happy with the MT-5. Its price but also fit and finish are very good. Together with a nice look, many various versions, ergonomic design, great leather sheath and versatility the brown one is my new outdoor companion, and the second elegant black/gray complements my collection.

I found following information:

' "BOHLER Antinit N695", WNr. 1.4125, AISI 440C to ASTM A276

C - 1,030
SI - 0,48
MN - 0,44
P - 0,018
S - 0,0010
CR - 16,46
MO - 0,43

HBW Brinell 226 '

(So, is it more close to 60-61HRC?)

Two weeks ago I was at the Polish seaside, where I did several quite strong and large pegs for a large tarp/canvas against wind during a photoshoot in very windy day on the beach. Work included batoning, chopping and whittling. Cudeman MT-5 Cocobolo has proven itself very well, also for the few next days on a camping. The knife has no any scratches and any chipping after all. The edge is still perfect, but of course I had to re-sharpen it to the hair shaving level and it was very easy on my Lansky Turnbox.

Regarding the data sheet N695 is equal to 440C and in my opinion it is true, and both are very good steels for the knives. I changed the LionSteel M2 for Cudeman MT-5 due to the steel and the excellent sheath. D2 steel in M2 has no such stainless properties and additionally its edge is more brittle and prone to chipping, but of course it is still very good hunting knife. In my opinion for the outdoor work the N695 steel is better choice than D2.

Nice review. I've been wanting to try a Cudaman since seeing some other videos, but haven't found the model I want for sale anywhere in the states. The 299.

Thanks.
"The 299", is it the price? Which model is so expensive? Cudeman has very good prices for the knives, especially ordered directly from Spain.
I just checked quickly some auctions on ebay and these two MT-5 above cost 90-95$ in U.S.

Knifeworks has Cudeman knives at reasonable prices. And they are a supporting dealer. That said I do not need another g.d. knife. Which is not to say that I won't buy one. After all I do not own a Cudeman yet.

Thanks.

Sorry, I wasn't clear, that's the model number.

So far, I've not found a source for one in the USA, other than an all black version on Ebay, I didn't want.

Good to see that they have went to higher quality steels. If I can remember right, they used to make their knives in 440A or so back in the day. The Spanish knives I've seen always had great leather sheaths.

I think you was pretty clear but my English is not perfect and I still have problems with use of "The" and "a" and their meaning :)
, but thanks for the model explanation.
Do you now aceros-de-hispania.com/gb? They have the 299B model and they have worldwide delivery.

Thanks I'll check it out, sorry for the delay in responding, we took a very close lightening strike Monday night, and lost everything connected to a phone line, including my DLS modem, new one arrived today.
