Culling the herd a bit on the giveaway box

Here are a few things I'm wanting to maybe leave out of the giveaway box in order to help lighted the load / lower future shipping costs , and would like some input.

The black hard case I am definitely going to leave out, I don't particularly have any use but it takes up a lot of space, there's still plenty of room in one of the knife rolls too.

These 3 knives are not traditional and I'd like to remove them or something , I'd have to figure out somebody to give them too though and also don't know what the bottom one is.

This Japanese made electricians knife is extremely hard to open and the blades are loose, so it could probably stand to be left out.

Both of these 2 are damaged.

The Wenger has rough scales, missing toothpick & tweezers, and the philips screwdriver is broken.

The Camillus WW2 engineers knife has a broken can opener and the blade doesn't have much snap left, but otherwise is in pretty good condition.
I was going to take it but didn't want to be greedy, in order to help call the herd I am probably going to keep it.

This Remington Barlow is pretty worn but has plenty of life left in it.

This Case Barlow is also pretty worn and has been buffed like crazy.

I'm conflicted on these 2 Barlows, they're both too worn for my taste but still have life left and I know that plenty of people would still enjoy them.

With the black case gone, 3 modern folders out, me keeping that Camillus, then the broken Wenger & Japanese electricians knife out I think that's about the most I could do.
Another thing I can do on top of that is split this up into two boxes.
It cost $31.50 to get to me, and is likely to just go up from there if something isn't done about it.

So what do you guys think I should do.
Leave or remove the modern folders ?
Are the 2 Barlows still desirable enough to leave in considering their condition?
Should I split this into two boxes ?

I'm open to suggestions.

I say definitely get rid of the modern folders. Give them away to someone who would appreciate them.
Also, get rid of the broken Camillus and SAK. Toss those in the trash (recycling?) - unless there's someone who wants to try and fix them.
The barlows, I think still look desirable, especially the Case (although maybe the picture makes it look nicer than it is) so keep them in the box.
My $.02

I don't really see the benefit of splitting it into two boxes. The two boxes would most likely together cost a chunk more than the single box, so it would still be the same problem really.

To me the Barlows don't look that bad in the pictures. IRL they might appear not so good.
As for the damaged knives, is it possible someone can use them for parts?
Maybe a first come-first served instant GAW for each, specifying they are parts knives, incase someone can use a blade or spring to repair a knife in their collection/accumulation?

If I remember right, the last time the box was split, there was 2 Gaws.

One box had the higher-end/more desireable knives, (regardless of price point . I believe there were Rough Rider, Imperial, and Colonial's in it, along with Case, GEC, (US) Schrade, etc.) and was to be passed on by the winner of that box in a GAW, according to the rules.

The second box contained the knives that had been in the box longest, regardless of make, condition, and value, and was not required to be passed along by the winner of that box.

Would a double GAW like that be an option?

Sorry. I will shut up & get lost.

I will not enter for either box, anyway.

The Camillus I decided to keep, it is a WW2 engineers knife after all.
The broken Wenger can go to somebody for parts.
The modern folders I can try to find homes for.
I'll bet my cousin would like the Cold steel.

I have come to the same conclusion about the Barlows.
They were nice knives once there's definitely plenty of life left and, and a number of members appreciate knives in this condition.

How many knives will remain? If still a full box like you received, why not split into 2 boxes and have 2 drawings

I agree, i think if you split it into one main box to continue the passaround and one or two boxes to just give away (as "second and third place") i like this idea because if still gives everyone that might have had their eye on a certain knife a chance at it. This would also make shipping cost more. I would be willing to chip in for shipping one small flat rate box if you choose to split up and send out multiple. Pm me if you go that route.

There are about 55 knives left in the box.

I think a good way to go about it might be to just evenly and equivalently split everything up into 2 boxes, and let the 1st place winner gets 1st choice of which box they'd like to pick through.
I can fill each of the rolls up fairly evenly.
Then each box would get 1 full roll, 2 of the 4 GEC made knives, 2 of the 4 fixed blades, and 3 of the 6 other knives NIB knives.

It's not a bad idea for somebody to get a smaller box they can just keep, but I wouldn't know how to decide what should be relegated to that box.
should it be the less desirable knives and who says what's desirable?

Maybe the next winner should put a cap on the number of knives in the box going forward? This just keeps happening over and over.
As long as somebody isn't say replacing GEC with Rough Rider or something, maybe we should require winners to start taking 2 knives for every 1 knife they put in ?
Also I think it would be good to stipulate no knives with broken blades ?

It would be cool to at some point organize a parts / project knife box for anybody who has never tried to repair or customize a knife before, in that box I think it would simply be a just take a couple situation with occasional new additions or something.

Hey I'm in for the giveaway if we're splitting up the two boxes. My main deterrent was the high cost of shipping the single box.

If it's too late to enter, I'm fine with that too and I'll catch the next one.

I extended it another week while we figure this out, so I will add you if we decide for certain on splitting the box into two.

heyo, go ahead and pull me off the list, i think i'll sit it out for a bit and let others have a shot

I have divided up the knives evenly ( I removed the Saber Japan knife to make an even number, and the blade is quite loose ) to fill out 2 boxes.
Each box will have exactly 25 knives in it including 2 of the GEC made knives, 2 of the fixed blades, and 3 the of the other NIB knives.

An even number of a fair even mix of knives.
If any of these 2 winners wants to pull their boxes or anything for the next winners that is up to them.
