Culti vs SAR3 vs BAD

I haven't handled a culti. I like my SAR3 much more than I liked my BAD. The hardness of the BAD was nifty, but the choil size and position was really awkward in use for me.

I've never had nor held a SAR3, but I've had a BAD and currently own a Culti.

I didn't care for the BAD (Active Duty) size/shape after having it and using it. Not sure why really, but it's just awkwardly big and strangely shaped for a 'small' knife to me.

The Culti, however, I love. The size, shape, and proportions are just right (for a small knife) to me. Admittedly I do have an affinity for straight-ish handles though...

So far, the only small Busse I like better than my Culti is my CABS. And not by much...

I've got all three.

My preference is the Culti. The BAD is too thin for it's size, when I carry an AD size, it's my HD (.200).

I rotate between the Culti and SAR3. The Culti is real close to my Emerson folder, making it somewhat redundant (cept no hinge !), around town it's Culti, but heading out on the trail I'll bring the SAR3. It's thicker, if I need to pry or split something the SAR's more robust.

Jimmy, is there any chance that you have a CABS to add to that picture?
Awesome shot, thanks for taking and posting it

I've not got a SAR3 - not sure the handle would work for me. I do have a couple of culti's and a satin AD that's just a shade over 4mm thick.

The culti feels more comfortable in my hand than the AD. With the AD, I tend to want to put my index finger over the talon - not good if it slips! With the culti, I don't get that, it just sits nicely in the hand.

The AD does feel sturdier in a fist-grip though, or with the thumb pressed hard in the middle of the blade spine, and the blade is presented at a slightly more aggressive angle for power cuts like that. That is, the edge is angled slightly down towards the fingers and away from the wrist. The culti's edge on the other hand comes out perpendicularly from the fist, making me want to angle my wrist down slightly for power cuts. I hope you can get what I mean there...

The rounder profile of the culti, and its light weight, allow it to move very quickly and easily in the hand. Changing grips is easier than with the AD. There is still enough shape though for it to feel firm and completely secure in the hand.

Overall, I do like my AD because it feels (and is) heavy-duty, it's shiny and has green G10 scales. I like green. The culti beats it for usability though, for anything that doesn't need the thicker blade. If I did want to put more power into cutting than the culti felt comfortable with, I would pull a bigger tool out anyway, rather than the AD.

Your welcome, nope, passed on the *CABS seires. CO has a 3.5" blade limit, I've been staying away from EDCs I can't carry openly round town.

It's funny, looking at the picture the knives seem petty similar, till you hold them in your hand. The AD's a big knife .

It's all in the handles, the SAR feels small compared to the AD,like a GW, I was using my Culti in a restaurant, little girl at the next table said Daddy, that guys got a big knife  LOL, the big knife was hiding under my vest :foot:

foxyrick hit on the differences in feel.

For me it goes,

Culti>SAR3>AD

I have owned (own) all three.

If you want an all around utility knife to just cut things, it's hard to beat the Culti. I really like the straight handle and slim stock.

The SAR3 is a close second. I like it because of the ergo's, but to be honest it is still a very robust knife for the size.

The AD is no sloucher, but the SAR3 has better ergos and the Culti just feels familiar from day one, it's a knife design we all grew up with in the kitchen.

I have a SAR 3 and like it a lot,

but my dad ha a Culti and that thing is SCHWEET!!

I have all three knives. As one who believes that the original Custom Shop AD is the best knife Busse ever made, I would recommend the BAD, without question.

(Incidently, the ZT NO-E is the second-best Busse ever made.)

Hey how thick is that Culti? It seems thicker than normal? This is making me want a Culti

I had the SAR3/BAD debate myself and sold the bad. I haven't handled the culti but the sar 3 is a lot of knife in a small package. The thickness of the steel and the ergos make it my go to blade.

I've only had the Culti and a Skeleton Warden. I thought I would really like the Culti but found it awkward and stick-like in hand. My favorite knives are skinny, pointy knives like the Culti but I found it like hugging a tall, too-skinny girl who couldn't relax. I'm not trying to be sexist, but that is an analogy that is hopefully useful.

On the other hand, I usually don't like skeleton knives or knives with too much belly, but I liked the Skeleton Warden's ergos and blade shape, and especially its proportions. It is since sold, but my current EDC is a Swamp Warden.

That description is superb! I must try that [looks around for a tall, skinny girl]...

The Culti is one of Busse's most under rated knives in my opinion, its a great little bush knife, wound'nt be without mine.

:D I appreciate your enthusiasm for research, but make sure you can find one who can relax once in a while. That makes all the difference.

If the Culti was a little bit more contoured, I would have liked it a lot more. I just found it a little too austere.

I just found it a little too austere.

That's what I really like about it. It's a slicer, made to cut. No crazy ergo's, fat butt's or unnecessary thickness of stock. It's just a EDC size knife made out of INFI, pure and simple.

I have the Culti and BAD. The BAD is my favorite Busse (if my newer CABS doesn't knock it down to 2nd place). I love it as a hunting knife.

The Culti should be just as handy, but for some reason, I always grab the BAD instead.

As you can tell from the responses, it's a highly personal thing... hell, it even begs comparison to preferences in women! You need to get all three and find out for yourself which one YOU prefer! :)

Stay sharp,
desmobob
