Hey guys,

I know we've been seeing a lot of threads about heat treatments and the hardness of these "super" steels. So, I dove in head first.

Just placed my order for the "Svarn 3." I opted for the mid-tech as it is already plenty flashy. You can place an order through their Facebook or Instagram. They respond fairly quick, within a day, and speak pretty decent English. I didnt think there was a note worthy barrier, anyway.

I know through some personal friends of mine that you can make some requests when it comes to these, such as detent strength and lock up engagement. I like that a lot.

I first heard of Cultrotech through my love of Shirogorov knives. I got to handle most of their models this year at Blade, including the Svarn 3.

Needless to say, it was excellent. One of the stand outs of the entire show. It was lust at first sight. Not only was the knife excellent by way of your standard metrics, lock up, action, centering, etc. But was also just a stunning knife visually. Tons of detail work. Pair that with an M390 blade that has one of the beat heat trests in the business, bringing the hardness up to 62-63, I'm very excited to see this one in use.

I'm wondering what properties will be brought out of the steel. I understand that cutting performance will be improved significantly but I'm curious to see corrosion resistance and such.

Either way, very little information out there about these guys so I figured I'd start this thread to share, and when I receive it/use it, continue to share.

How can they run m390 at 63hrc?!?!? All the mainstream manufacturers say it's not stable. That it's too brittle. Shame on Cultrotech for making it so hard. Don't they know it'll also be difficult to sharpen? Boo!

They make gorgeous knives and seem to actually give a shit about their performance. I might just have to get my hands on one at some point. I'm sure my wife will be stoked about the price. (At least I'm not a gun guy.)

I'd kill, quite literally, for the Rex 121 custom version. Not anyone important. Just one of those folks that sits in line in the drive thru for 20 minutes and still has no clue what the hell they want when it's time order.

Beautiful knife! Just make sure you maintain the edge or you might have to throw it out!:p

Lol.

I was originally a gun guy. Slowly gravitated over to knives. Left the gun world with a final purchase of a Lewis Machine and Tool Monolithic Rail AR15. Was one of my priceyer buys. Started out with knives by buying a Manix 2 XL.

My wife was so happy when I flat out stopped buying guns and went to solely knives...boy o boy. She really underestimated just how far that rabbit hole went LOL.

Being a professional sharpener, do you anticipate this being a royal PITA or something akin to S90?

Not for me. I don't have any trouble sharpening ceramic, so any steel is easy. Taking something from 30dps to 12dps will be a royal pain in the ass, but that's true even when it's just s30v.

I've never sharpened m390 at 63hrc (though I do have a blade ordered at that level), but I wouldn't anticipate it being any more difficult than s90 or s110. Probably easier even.

I'm upgrading to a wicked edge here soon. Can't wait.

Is this what you're using as well?

I use a TSProf system with a variety of abrasives. I don't recommend it though. It's a good system, but not perfect. Wicked Edge is the way to go.

I switched though because the vertical orientation of the Wicked Edge would aggravate a rotator cuff injury.

That's some funny stuff.
You almost got me typing at "too hard and diffucult to sharpen".
I think one of us isn't a good influence on the other. Or both.

PM2 M390 has been reported to have 62 hrc.
I am not sure if it is an advertised value or measured.
Have any problem reported for it, such as edge chipping?

I really want one. Too expensive for me to budget for atm. Kinda wish in a way they would do what spyderco does and make a LW plastic version with the high end blade.

We've only seen one at 62hrc atm. 59 to 62 is the range seen so far. And no issues at all for the one at 62hrc. And he uses it alot. Larrin also says it's fairly tough for a stainless at this hrc.

In Russia everyone is friends and family :)

I lol'd.

On that note, something is definitely occurring in regards to PayPal and Russia. I have a good friend whom I have made many deals with lose his entire account with funds still inside due to some discrepancy. Many other deals never done as the Russian sellers refused to use it.

A real shame as everything I'm buying as of late is Russian :(
