Cults for different knives

I've been thinking, and is it just me or are there little cults of people that swear by knives, for the Manixs, (Lightweight cult to name one) and then an XL cult (Not nearly as many) (Delica cult has a fair amount, same with Endura) Then there's the gigantic catholic church size Paramilitary 2 cult. And so on for other knives. Maybe it's just me.

Call it a cult, call it a fan club, call it a group of extremely satisfied users. Whatever you call it, there's probably one for every Spyderco model except possibly the T-Mag. I'm a huge fan of the Stretch, Kiwi, and Chaparral and I'm sure I'm not the only one who belongs to more than one.

Aww, poor T-Mag. :(

I'm a fan of them all unfortunately for my bank account but have a few that I'm partial to but my selection is based solely on the task at hand and choose the appropriate tool.
That said, I find the Military can do basically everything that I need a knife to do and carry one most of the time.

Maybe not so much a cult as a group of folks that have discovered the merits of a specific model - coupled of course with our common characterisitic of "collecting" the functional jewelry we are so fond of ...
The Deacon helped me get started with a Kopa ... that led to many more Spyderco offerings - some bought and sold, some kept and coveted.
The PM2 was of little appeal to me until I broke down and bought one ... handled it ... carried it for a while ... now (for me), it has become a yardstick for other knives of similar ilk. It's functionality and versatility are noweher to be seen at first glance - many have said it - you gotta use one for a while, then you "get it".
I also like Kiwi, Caly, Native, D-Fly, Superleaf ... the list goes on ...

Some knives do seem to have a large cult like following. When Spyderco releases some truly impressive knives like the Szabo or the Tatanka the response seems to be oddly muted while the babble around the Manix and especially the Para-Military [not even the Millitary for Pete's sake!] never ceases.

I'd loooooove a Szabo... It's awkward how the M2XL gets a Meh reaction and the regular manix gets so much praise... Likewise with the Military and Paramilitary...

Are you thinking that the paramilitary has a bigger following than the millie? You should put a poll thread up on that. Would be interesting and you might be surprised at the results. ;)

Just shows that Spyderco makes a lot of very interesting knives. I'm in the camp of fans for Manix 2, Manix 2 XL, Paramilitary and Military. I haven't caught on to some of the less mainstream knives like Cat and Callie but they seem to have a lot of fans too.

This would definitely be interesting. I was one of the PM faithful and then one day I fell in love with the Military. The size, as much a disadvantage at times it's also an advantage as well. Now I'm in the process of acquiring every last one. ;)

Im in the para 2 and caly 3.5 cult. Unfortunately the Caly 3.5 hasn't received the sprint run treatment like the para 2's have. I think it's time we see something new in the caly line :)

PM2's, Calys, Sage series primarily. They come and go a lot. Slimming down a lot, from what I used to have. Relatives and friends got a bunch off my hands, which made me feel good. Nothing better than sharing your hobby.
