Hello everyone.
I am working on a report regarding the cultural relevance of
the knife (blade tool). I have been racking my brain and
resources looking for info, I was wondering if any of you good
people could give me a helping hand?

Thanks in advance.
I know this is a very generic (broad?) question.

It might be too broad for your paper. You might consider narrowing to its significance in particular cultures like the first development of the knife or American Indians. I think you'd be able to find a ton of material on the mountain men and fur trappers, trade knives, etc.

Thanks for the reply.
Perhaps I should have said cultural relevance for me vs.
(someone else) different country.
How I view knife (well, the average person i.e. person using cheapo kitchen knife to cut a veggie) vs. someone who
stakes life on it day to day? and places much, much value.

I know this is a lot to think about, I am just brainstorming.
Hoping you all can help out.

I would appreciate any internet links to any info as well.

Maybe you could compare the role of knives in religions, such as ceremonial blades or Sihks, or blades in military use (like why Marine NCOs were given their sword).

Fossilhunter...I ma not really sure I understand what you are looking for but I have always been interested in how knives are veiwed in the Mexican culture.
I am of Mexican descent..mostly Indian ( as opposed to Spaniard)was born and raised in Texas. The knife is more deeply ingrained in the culture of Mexico than it is in the US.
If you want a good book to read that deals in part with that subject , try "Folklore and Culture on the Texas-Mexican Border "
by Americo Paredes. I have a copy I got at Borders bookstore...very intersting book.

Try the Himalayan Imports form for Nepal and the khukuri. It might give you some ideas where to start.
