The first laptop I ever owned was purchased secondhand in 1996 for $200, if I recall correctly. It was an abominable 386 with an 80 meg hard drive that overheated continually and altered its bios settings at random. It got me through the year or two afterwards until I could afford something halfway decent.
Yesterday I found it in the garage. It no longer worked and I'd long since removed anything from the hard drive that was worth anything to me. I recalled the khuk vs. PC thread, removed the battery, donned some safety gear and grabbed my 20" AK. You can imagine what happened next.
20" Ang Khola vs. Laptop
Closing thoughts:
My comment on there being no edge damage was premature - I just couldn't see it with my goggles on. There are a few small chips (<1mm) and minor rolling in areas. I spent a few minutes with a chakma and got the worst of it out; I'll repair the rest today. It will probably need a minor resharpening when I'm done. Seeing as how these old laptops were built like tanks, I'm not surprised.
Cleanup was, indeed, a PITA. The Page Down key gets the nod for distance, flying a remarkable ten paces from the site.
Extreme testing is well and good but I can't recommend this particular test in good conscience.
