Hi, Guys. First time posting on the forum. I've spent a few days searching the threads hoping to accurately date a 110 I bought last week. I'm striking out. The best I can tell my knife was manufactured around 1972-73. Read with the tip up, it reads "Buck 110 USA", from top to bottom. That should place it prior to 1974 if I have read correctly. There are no dots on either side of the "110".
However, it has three brass pins on the wood plus the stainless rocker rivet. The bolsters are rounded. The handle is identical to my 50th Anniversary 110. The blade is slightly more curved at the tip compared to the newer knife.
I did recieve a black leather sheath stamped 110 on the back. The snap is stainless and stamped "Buck".

Any help is much appreciated.

Welcome aboard Manion! You came to the right place someone with a lot more knowledge will be along shortly Stumps, David ITE etc. that will help you out! Pictures are always a big help as well.

Manion,

Some pictures would really help. Are the handle pins small or the size of those on current 110s?

I'll work on getting some pictures up. The pins look to be similar in size to current 110s. Only slightly smaller than the stainless rocker pin. I'm at work and won't be able to get any pictures up until tomorrow or the weekend.

Thanks.

without pics and based on the stamp not being inverted, sounds like a 5th ver 3rd variation

Actually, just read your whole post and saw the wood and 3 inlay rivots. There were some 110s either 07 or 08 that came through without date stamps. Could be your man.

imafritz, my knife's blade is stamped exactly as the one in your picture. The pin configuration is different, with mine having three pins that appear to be larger in size. It is in very good condition, so you are probably right in that it is an 07 or 08 without date stamps. I will post some pics as soon as I can.

Much appreciated.

The non-date stamp 110's came out in early 2008 (Jan.). I have one. There are other models missing a date stamp for that year. I have a 112 and I've seen a 500. DM

Yes, correct. There is an article on this in the collectors newsletter. I believe it mentioned that some 501's got out the door without a year date stamp. They kind of played it down but I think this is rather cool and throws us collectors a curve. This causes company history to surface and play a big part in this one time snafu. Causing us to be on the lookout for these essentially limited knives. DM

My pleasure. All 5th 3rds have 2 inlay and when I actually read, seeing large headed , I knew it wasn't that. But I had already pasted the pics so what the heck.

Thanks, guys for all your input. I'm pretty confident that my 110 is a 2008 knife without the date stamp. I think I'll keep it. By the way, I grabbed it off the 'Bay for $19.99.
