Hi,

Can anyone tell me what the name is of this Victorinox Swiss Army Knife?

Length closed is 3 1/4 inches, blade is 2 1/2 inches.

Thanks,

Dean

The short answer to that question is: not very well! As best as I can figure, if you cut the insulation all around the wire, you could then use the stripper to pull it off. BTW, I think the knife pictured may go by the name of the Waiter in the U.S.

To remove insulation from a wire using the notch, you bend the wire slightly inside the notch, then by keeping pressure against the bend the stripper will pull off the insulation.
Josh, the electrician has alox handles, large blade, awl, screwdriver/caplifter/stripper, and "electrician blade", which is a sheepsfoot sharpened only on one side and with a sharpened crescent shaped area for stripping cable. I've carried mine daily for around 10 years now. It's part of the Pioneer series and my personal favorite (though you have to carry a separate can opener, like a P38).

phantom4,

I don't think the waiter is the model name. I had a waiter once. It had the two "blades" shown above plus the corkscrew.

Yeah Dean, I think you're right, that's the one I was thinking of. I don't understand how they come up with some of the names. I've got one of the large looking blade models that has a philips screwdriver in place of the cork screw. Name? Cowboy! I guess they are using philips screws to put horseshoes on these days!

Anyone around here ever use swiss-knife.com? How are they to deal with? I'm in the States, but I assume ordering with a credit card is no problem?

Mnblade, during the last one and a half year I have ordered 3 times from them. Never had any problem. I have ordered from them many different models, amongst them the Rambler which at that time was cheaper out there (with the free shipping option).
BTW I learned about the Rambler first here at BFC, partly from your posts.
Thanks again, it is one great little tool.
All my orders were credit card ones, no problem at all.
The shippings took 5-12 days, but this depends on the type of shipping you choose.
The customer service is good, most of the times I have got my messages responded within 12 hrs, only one time it took like 2 days.
Nice guys to deal with.

Thanks for the info. They sure do have good prices and selection.
Glad you like your Rambler. I think that's a hell of a LOT of knife packed into a compact package. And minus the things I DON'T want on my SAK, namely a light or a pen. IMHO, SAKs are made for the long long haul and pens and flashlights are not. Flashlights fail, pens leak. SAKs are forever! :D
