Curious about the Case Black Synthetic Medium Jack, 22087 ss.

The 22087 pattern has been around since at least pre-1940 ('Tested' era), according to one collecting guide* I have, and has continued on through the 'XX' era (1940-'65), the 'USA' era (1965-'69), the 'dots' era (1970s) and the 'lightning S dots' era (1980s), at least. The guide doesn't list anything later than that. The black synthetic covers were called 'black composition', according to the guide.

It's a dandy of a pocket knife. I have had one for about 10 years, but I don't really carry it anymore. Switched over to SAK's lately. It makes a great alternative to the Peanut class being slightly larger and less fiddley if you have a little arthritis coming on. The Redbone however is tempting me awfully..... so .......

These are fantastic jack knives, so small that they carry in pocket without the feel of a lunker…..I like bigger stockmans’ and trappers but they often become binding in pocket when driving, or when hot outside less comfortable to carry and I just don’t care for a sheath unless I am hunting or hiking. One thing I notice about Case knives is, many of their colorful polished bone and stag knives have a less than stellar edge and are over polished which ruins some of the point or tip….some are delivered excellent to my liking but often over polished and lazy walk and talk…every 22087 I have handled always has very good walk and talk and no wobble and…excellent edges and points which are easy to touch up. I think this stainless is called “as cut” or something similar. Every bit as unobtrusive in the pocket as the Peanut model with blades a bit longer and handle still small for pocket comfort but also big enough to give good purchase in the hand for firm cutting and control in my large hands….these have been around for decades and one of the lowest priced Case knives yet one of the very best for fit and finish like they were all offered decades ago! I hope you enjoy it as much as I do, I have probably 50 or more Case knives and this is one of my very favorite models!👍
