So, I've been thinking about this for a while. It may have been asked here before but I couldn't find the answer. So here we go. What is the deal with the hogs, pork and piglets? Is it derived from Heavy Ordinance Grade (HOG) or do most of you guys just enjoy eating ribs?:D
And while I'm at it, why is Jerry referred to as the boss? I figure most of you guys don't work for him so there must be some other reason for calling him that. Is it the similar pronunciation of the words Busse and Boss?

Thanks

Himalayan imports has sharks, busse has hogs, swamp rat has rats, scrap yard has dogs. I'm sure there are other examples, but basically it's intentional and unintentional "branding", a combination of visual images and ideas that link to form a generalized concept of a company, so that each individual part will bring up the companies name and presence in the mind.

for himalayan imports its people sharking up blades, lurking each morning and snagging the best "deal of the days", with busse it was people hogging up models and hoarding large collections. swamp rat and scrap yard were built that way form the beginning as an intentional company image.

Well said LVC. The swine connotation can also be interpreted as:

piglet = one who has recently been introduced to INFI or one who is contemplating purchasing said INFI.
HOG = one who has acquired many pieces of INFI AND has been officially indoctrinated into HOGDOM, by attending Fogos or by special, double secret on-line indoctrination.
Boss Hog = the one and the only Jerry Busse, the mastermind and creator of these knives.

Hahaha. Its kinda funny to hear these questions and someone new's take on all this now that i've hung around long enought to get it. Jerry is the boss, because, well... he created all these knives. He IS Busse.

I thought Jerry was the guy that cleaned up the place... the Janitor and resident Scotch expert...

OINK.... ALAMOHOG....

Thank you for your explanation.

I kind of wondered the same thing. I've only ever seen Busse knives posted on ingunowners.com ("INGO") and at the Indy 1500 Gun & Knife show. I've always been into guns and knives, (and beer), but seeing a Jackhammer pic posted on INGO really piqued my interest, and a few members over there pointed me here. I'm currently trying to sort out all of the great Busse knives now to figure out which one will be my first piece of INFI. Looks like a great community here, I really look forward to becoming a part of it.

So according to this I am definitely a ... piglet. Although, I don't consider myself new to Busse knives. I learned about them around 2000 but at the time I could not appreciate them. The shop offering at he time was - yes, the Ergo series. To this day I am kicking myself for not getting at least one of them. Well what's done is done.

My first Busse (family) was a Camp Tramp. I know, not INFI but it got me hooked nevertheless. I started following the Swamp Rat forum and later the Busse Combat forum.

My second Busse was a Basic 7 smooth coat. Not real INFI either. But those in the know say that it is pretty much impossible to tell the difference. Anyway, the Basic 7 appeals to me for its minimalist yet well thought out design. As Antoine de Saint-Exupery said, perfection in design is achieved not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.” :D

I may get more Busse knives in the future depending on what will be available. To be honest, I'm not a big fan of the handles on the models that have been offered in recent years. So I might either look for something from the past or wait for what the future will bring.

I believe 1whobuys coined the term (hog) in reference to idahoskunk 6 or 7 years ago. It stuck and the rest is history.
