Cold Steel offers some Tomahawks...some of them say "American Tomahawk Company" on stickers on the hawks.

My question is, does American Tomahawk Company have a relationship with Cold Steel?

Just wondering...

Thanks,

PAUL

hmmmm... very loosy comercial trick...:grumpy:
it could be a good idea that some serious knives magazine start to make a comparison test between the CS and ATC tomahawk to clear the doubt one for all!
THEY CAN'T BE COMPARED!!!

Now I know the difference. And by looking through the website, I can see that there are great differences in design between the Cold Steel and the ATC.

Now...I have another curious question. Since it is clear that ATC is a better product, how is this product marketed to soldiers, considering that the hawk is based off the "Rogers Rangers" design?

This came about because I was asked to teach Tomahawk tactics to some military folk. Any details beyond that last sentence do not belong on an internet forum, so please don't ask. However, one of the things that people don't know is that Soldiers are often asked to pick up their own equipment, costing money out of their pocket. I have got a couple groups of guys going to Iraq, and they have been asked to pick up equipment...so they have gone to cold steel because of price. I don't blame them...on a soldiers pay, it is not likely that they are going to have the means to spend $170 or more for only one piece of equipment.

So...do soldiers get price breaks? And if so...how much? I'd rather these guys have the better equipment if they can get a break. Let me know if they get a discount, and I'll pass the information along.

Thanks,

PAUL

believe me Paul, I'm professional soldier too, I have hawks from both brands, I could never imagine to trust my life on a CS hawk... a litle practice with them quickly show there weakness. CS may produce some good knives, but when speaking about a tomahawk who is going to be used as entrance or breach tool or for diging or in worse case CQB weapon, there is my eyes no doubt.
Of course there is a big price difference, but I know a lot of soldiers who easily buy a knife or some boots for 160$...
As for everything you get what you pay for ;)
Personaly I was deployed in Iraq and have seen quiet some ATC out there! (that's where I saw an ATC for the first time!)

Cold Steel makes a couple of knives that that are pretty good, but thier tomahawks are pretty much disposable. If the unit is footing the bill for training and authorizing the carry of a tomahawk, a couple of memo's should loosen up the IMPAC card. If not then tell your guys to buy the best equipment they can afford. Who knows - if they pool the cash and buy in quantity someone may cut them a deal.

The ATC products don't really cost more than most Joe's drink and party in a month.

I am hoping to see what Mr. Prisco has to say on the subject. It would be nice to know if my guys could get a break somehow...I can let them know, and I am sure you'll have some converts. Unfortunatily, some of these guys aren't thinking about beer $$...O.K., well most D.I.C.K.'s are always thinking about beer money (lol) but they have other concerns. Some of them are reserves with family to support on Soldiers pay, rather then the higher paying jobs they've had at home. Situation no good.

Anyways...I'll still urge them to buy the better product, but a price break of some kind for soldiers, especially active ones would help. Also, I have been told that the Unit footing the bill for the hawks is not an option, unfortunatily.

Side Note: I will say that The Cold Steel's Recon Tanto will give anyone Airbourne a hard on. They do make good knives. It's unfortunate that the hawks, what many of the soldiers are buying, may not be reliable.

Good idea. I'll give that a try

Thanks!

The CS 'hawk in question should not be compared to the ATC 'hawk.

It is apples and oranges.

If you want good gear that you are expecting to serve you well then you have to pay for it. A cheap weapon, sleeping bag, combat vest, or tomahawk will serve you cheaply, period.

The ATC 'hawks are first class products that can be, and are, relied upon by those actually in the field. I would carry no other.

CS makes some fine knives and I've owned and carried several of these. No issue there.

Finally, the ATC VN Tomahawk is blessed by the late Peter LaGana, the man who designed and put into production this 'hawk in the first place. Anything else is simply "anything else".

"nuff said".
