Just out of curiosity, which is the better fighter out of the three:

USMC Kabar
Cold Steel SRK
Becker BK7

I have both the Kabar and BK7 and I think the Kabar as an all out fighter is better - due to its lightness and blade profile. I don't own an SRK and was just wondering what people who have handled all three think about them in this role

The srk is a very heavy knife, the USMC is the best fighter of the three i my opinion.
Kyle Fuglesten

p.s. If you are looking for a Cold Steel knife that is more comparable to the Kabar, I beleive it is called the bushranger, or bushmaster, I have one, it is a much thinner lighter and faster knife than the SRK.

Have handled all 3, and own the Becker, but as a fighter, yeah the Ka-Bar would be my choice.

Lost in the woods however, it would be my last of the 3.

The Becker would be first!

I'd also choose the Ka-Bar as the best fighter: weight, balance, thickness, blade profile, and the leather handle is nice and grippy.

The Cold Steel is too heavy and awkward to use effectively as a fighter.

I don't think the Becker handles would feel very secure in hand, and though the steel is good enough, the edge geometry is not made for slashing.

I have to vote against the crowd here, it think the SRK is a good "fighter", for no other reason than I feel that the Asymetrical handle gives you a better index than the round handle of the Ka-bar. Under stress, in the dark when the SHTF I want to know I have the cutting edge facing the right direction. I don't think a light quick blade offers you much of an advantage, in the real world, its fine for a mental masturbation "knife duel" but I'd rather have a solid heavy blade that I know isn't going to break off making hard contact w/ bone or other hard object in the "Stabbees" gear or clothing. The Ka-bar is an okay blade but I think their wide use in warfare is due mainly to wide availability and issue rather than some outstanding merit.

How about the Buck Nighthawk ?

I have a Nighthawk and it seems to me that it would make for a pretty good fighter in the size and price range suggested, better than the others mentioned.

I've handled, briefly, the other 3 knives mentioned, and I think the Nighthawk, with it's blade pattern and grind, and it's handle, is clearly superior as a fighter.

Keep in mind that I bought my Nighthawk with utility in mind, not as a fighter, so what do I know.

In Toronto, you might find a reasonably priced Nighthawk at Tent City (Steeles at Dufferin).

The Ka-Bar would be the best fighter of the three knives you mentioned. It has a substantial guard, clip point blade and it's not forward-heavy.
