Curly Birchwood Worm Holes and Conditioning

Hey guys, new to the forum here, I just purchased a Casstrom lock back folding knife for EDC and hunting. Was wanting some recommendations on a good oil to coat the wood with so it won't absorb moisture or other liquids from a deer.

Also the curly birch wood has knots in it which is to be expected, but some of the knots have small worm holes in them. Is this normal? Just how the wood normally is?

Thanks,
