Alright, what is the trick to staining this stuff so that you get that great dark brown/black pattern? All my efforts are rewarded with blonde colored wood that looks like crap! Who's got the secret?

Another option is Feibings leather dye. I like to use 3-4 coats of medium brown, then 2-3 coats of cordovan. Rubbing with 0000 steel wool and linseed oil between each coat.

Aniline wood dye, availible at most woodworkers supply stores. They come in almost any color you can imagine. Two brands that I've used are Lockwoods and Transtint.

Mike where can you get the potassium permagant(sp?)?
And will it work on other woods besides the curly or tiger maple?
Thanks.

I like to use Chromium Trioxide. It gives a rich dark color. I get mine for about $4.00 from Dixie Gun Works. It is very easy to use, just wipe on and leave for about one hour. Then use a gray scotts bright pad with a little water and littly go over the wood until the desired color is reached. Very easy to use and the color is rich. Then simply apply your favorite finnish. P.S. were gloves.
