I've had my eye on a Hen & Rooster sowbelly stockman. I've read in some posts the new ones are made in china but the places that sell them (and H&R's own website) claim they are made in Solingen Germany. If you have any experience with their recent products, I would appreciate it if you post your impressions of their product.

This is the one I want.

I believe Hen & Rooster is still made in Germany. The Kissing Crane brand has moved to China. I've been eyeing a H&R whittler as I've taken a shine to the whittler pattern lately. - Ed

Olbertz and Boker make the biggest part of them and generally they are very nice. There are some patterns, mostly fixed blades, that are made in Spain. Also there are some patterns that are simply not built with the quality of the rest; the tang stamp seems to be etched on and they have a generally cheap feel to them. But there are many patterns that are still very nice and the sowbelly is one of them. Although the H&R Sowbelly patterns do not have a hard core snap; more like a Case knife.

Thanks Knifeswapper. The snap thing isn't a big deal to me. (I have & like Buck 300s) I'm gonna pull the trigger.

I've had this since Wednesday. Overall I'm pleased with it. It came sharp. The pull is weak and the snap is inconsistent between the 3 blades. I really like the way it looks and I like the blade shapes. I think the bone is excellent. I'd prefer a harder pull but it'll do.

Great lookin' sowbelly, Stelth. Pinched and threaded bolsters just look right on a sowbelly. If one of the secondary blades was a Wharnie or coping blade, it would be darn near perfect. Good pickup!

Thanks~ & I totally agree. I wish the smaller clip was at least a sheep's foot. If it was a wharncliffe it would be the perfect combination.

i have an older frost cutlery and the pattern, and blade shapes are
almost,if not identical.
it doesn't have piched bolsters, and has worm groove handles.
i can post picture if you like?
very hefty knife that looks awesome,

ok,here is my frost version.
this thing has strong springs and snap.
i am afraid to cut myself opening sometimes.

I've seen that model, but by all means, post away. I think Frost owns H&R so that would account for the similarity.

My first H and R very impressed. Stainless blades all say Solingen and the quality is top notch. The pull and the snap are adequate to good (I consider walk and talk on a Vic Soldier to be perfect if that helps). I'll be getting more from this brand. Nice watch and knife combo Stelth;)

I bought this one a few years ago and still have it.

The springs are week on mine too , but as it got older and broke in a little, it has a bit more snap.
