Curious what the current CPM154 blades are getting taken to in Heat treat, assuming that is public information. Anyone know? Thanks so much ! Beautiful blades, cannot wait to own one.

Great questions. I've been curious about CPM154's RC rating as well.

I take those powdered steels to 60-61 and the 01 steel to 59-60. Some guys would go even harder on the SS. But I haven't ever seen the need. We took a dud sneaky pete(warped in HT) outside this week after grinding a rough edge on it and tore a pallet apart. Batonned it as rough as I could, drilled, pryed, and never showed a mark.

My S35VN feels pretty hard on the stones, but no problems with chipping so I'm very satisfied with it:thumbup:

Thanks for the info Andy:D

That's cray cray! I don't know what kind of wood pallets are made of, but it's some tough, nasty wood.

I believe they are made of whatever wood is around. Especially the ones from overseas. In my previous career, we once got a pallet made of lacewood and I was very tempted to use it. My boss talked me out of it by showing me all of the fumigation certificates a pallet must have to come into our country from overseas. I didn't want to add that hazzard to my dust issues here in the shop. This pallet was some kind of Oak.

Ha! I'm always tempted to liberate a nice plank. I work around a lot of pallets, and you're right, they come in many different woods. Didn't know that about the fumigation stuff, but it makes sense.

That may keep the creepy crawlys from overseas away, but didn't keep my co-worker from getting a widow bite. Widows are very prevalent around here.
