Just currious, what type of steel are circular sawmill blades made of?
I have several that came from old (30's 40's) sawmills that I use to make blades out of but have never known what type of steel they are.
Have any of y'all used saw blades before?

Thanks In Advance,
Floyd M.

most likely L6, a good steel for knives. If they have carbide tips on the blade, it is anybody's guess

Thanks for the reply derkins they do not have carbide tips, one of them has long blades that are fat at the top and curve down to a point. They are a booger to cut, I dont have any way to forge or heat them so I roughe cut with a cut-off wheel and the shape by files. When I get a camera I will post some pix for y'all to see.

Get a portaband band saw and some quality bi-metal blades. You can slice her right up with very little waste and a whole lot less mess. Quite a bit quicker too.
Oh yeah, once you have a portaband you'll wonder why you waited so long to get one!

Thanks crex, I was considering a portaband or a small band saw from lowes or sears but I wasnt sure if they would cut that hard of steel or not. Your sugestion is all I needed to make up my mind on purchasin a saw.

The bi-metal blades will really surprise you at what they will cut. Test lightly before going at it that way if they are to hard you won't wreck the blade. I've not had any problem cutting up any circular saw blades. It will also cut up leaf springs like they are annealed. You'll like more the more you use it. Have fun and leave the kitchen table legs alone!
