Hello. Got this in about a week ago new from BladeCo. This is my first knife with IKBS so I don't know if this is normal or not. When I open the knife all the way, and then go to close it, it stops about half way down under its own weight. While closing if goes from being super smooth to feeling like there is "something in there". I have a several 056x's from ZT, and they are smoother. I thought this 'was what it was', but I saw a video on bladecos Instagram of a new, non broken in knife from the same batch being super smooth. Trying to see if anyone knows a trick to fix this. I've added a few drops of nano oil, blown it out, nothing. It has done this, every time, since day one. I made a video and will post the link as soon as it uploads. Thanks in advance for the help guys.

Not normal for IKBS. I would contact Dave and explain your concerns. He would be able to answer to it much better than anyone else.

So you feel like the bearings are performing differently from fully opened to partially opened? You've ruled out the lock bar from having any thing to do with it?

Yeah it will be kind of stiff, and super smooth, in the exact same spot. It's stiff when closing from fully opened. When closed and partially opened it falls under its own wait. It's not that bad at all, just rather odd to me. Side note this thing locks up like a tank with zero blade play at all.

Its typical of his work...he puts a grove at the begining of the detent path, i have seen his knives do what you describe.

Send it back to the dealer if you can.

Bladecos policy:*
YOU MUST NOTIFY US WITHIN 3 DAYS OF RECEIVING YOUR KNIFE IN ORDER TO QUALIFY FOR A REFUND or EXCHANGE. *

I have not carried this at all, but have flipped it thinking I had to break it in. So i guess I eat it. There policy seems pretty cut and dry. They even have it in all caps too.

If you want to list it for trade that's fine but this isn't the proper section.

Cakes, personally I wouldn't worry that much. I have several IKBS and other bearing based knives. Some require much more break in time than others. Carry it, use it, play with it. I've had some Microtechs come as stiff as my ex wife's legs, but loosen up amazingly well the more you play with them (the knives, not my ex wife. That was a lost cause, LoL!).

For that kind of money the knife should be perfect, if theres a flaw that bugs you considering what you paid for it, i'd get rid of it. I have an ikbs crkt ripple that's smoother than that when closing.

I think the problem is me, not the knife. I expect things before I get knives, sight unseen or touched, and then fester over stupid little things. I got an XM 24 a few months ago, and the lockup was at about 55 or 60% that's all I could focus on. Locked up solid, great condition, but had to trade it because that's all I could look at. One company that has blown my expectations away, twice, is Medford. First a Praetorian G, then an Arktika. Some people don't like the knives, or Greg as a person. I like both so for me it's a win win. That's why i think, for now, my 'big ticket' knives will be Medfords from now on. At least until I don't want any more, but I think that will take a while.

Hey man, sorry I didn't see this until now. If you ever have an issue like this again, let me know. Even if it's past our 3-day policy. We will work with customers on this and definitely help you sort any issues out.

I have a personal F3 that did the same thing since it was new. I must have flipped it 1k times and now it is smooth as glass. Often it's the detent/lockbar tension that needs to "break-in." Dave is in the midst of a new generation of F3's that will be pretty sweet, so don't hesitate to give him another shot in the future. Or you can ask us to hand pick one for you. I know you already traded the knife, but I just wanted to reach out and let you know to not hesitate to contact us. We do our best to accommodate customers. Thanks,

-Tony

I've had excellent dealings with both BladeCo and Dave himself so yes, I echo the "giving them another shot" thing. They'll make it right one way or another and I'm a real fan of Dave's work.
